He was born on January 24, 1924 to Charles and Georgia Wakefield in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
William joined the Navy at the age of 17, just six months before the attack on Pearl Harbor. His Navy career spanned 25 years, including 14 years at sea. He served honorably in three wars, WWII, Korea, and Vietnam.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Wakefield and brother, Jack Wakefield.
William is survived by his son, Jack Scott Wakefield and wife Bonnie; grandson, Zachary Wakefield, wife Leah and grandchildren, Patricia, Bevin and William Wakefield; step-son William Glasscock, wife Minnie and children.
