

Willie Garcia was called home to be with Our Lord on January 26, 2018. Willie was born in Melvin, Texas on July 27, 1922 to Gabriela Rosales and Guillermo Garcia. He served in the 44th Engineer Combat Battalion during World War II and was captured by the German Army during the Battle of the Bulge. He was held as a Prisoner of War from December 1944 until April 1945. He was awarded the Purple Heart, the Croix de Guerre by President of the Provisional French Government and commendations by the Commanding General of the 28th Infantry Division and Commanding General of VIII Corps. He was extremely proud of his service. Willie retired from Kelly AFB, was a member of the St. Vincent DePaul Society, Holy Name Society, American Ex-Prisoner of War, DAV and VFW. Willie was a devoted husband to Stella Garcia, who preceded him in death. He is survived by his brother, Fermin Garcia, children, Rosa Linda Lomas (Johnny), Cynthia Muniz, William Garcia (Yvonne), and Kathryn Ortiz (Johnny); ten grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He will be remembered as a devoted husband, father and patriot for his service and sacrifice. He will be greatly missed.
Visitation will be on Monday, February 12, 2018 from 6-9pm at Sunset Northwest Funeral Home, a rosary will be recited at 7pm that same evening. We will depart the funeral home on February 13, 2018 at 9:00am for a 9:30 Mass at Basilica of the National Shrine of the Little Flower, interment will follow at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery.
