

Lt. Col. Willis "Doug" Philip Jr, USAF Ret, age 85 of San Antonio, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, August 21, 2007.
He graduated from Christian Brothers High School in Memphis, TN in 1938 and then enlisted in the US Army. He continued his military service with the US Air Force until retirement in 1971. During that time he graduated from the University of Omaha in 1966.
After retirement he was employed by City Public Service heading up the Security office. After retiring from CPS in 1983, Doug and his wife, Frances traveled visiting family and friends and enjoying fishing trips to the coast. When Frances became ill, Doug was a faithful companion and devoted husband with his daily presence at the nursing home. His interest and involvement with her care led him to becoming a well-loved volunteer at the nursing home.
He was a man of deep faith and his commitment to his church, Christ Fellowship Church, was reflected in the offices of Elder and Missions that he prayerfully served. His faithfulness in providing doughnuts and coffee will be missed by his Sunday School Class.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances M. Philip; and son, Willis Douglass Philip, III and sister, Bobbie Jean Hedmark.
Granddaddy is survived by daughters, Harriet Ann Wiygul , San Antonio, TX and Pamela Sue Wright and her husband, Darryl, Bulverde, TX; son, John Buchanan Philip and wife Georgia, Collierville, TN; daughter-in-law, Helen Philip, Tomball, TX; grandchildren, Jimmy, Kathryn, Jeremy, Rachel, Willis IV, Audrey, Rebekah, Benjamin and Jonathan; great-grandchildren, Jordan, Jake and Lara; niece, Jeannie Hedmark.
