Winona "Nonie" A. Riggs

April 27,1933 - August 31, 2025

With profound sadness, we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mother, Winona “Nonie” Ormsby Riggs, on August 31, 2025, at the age of 92. Born in Miami, Florida on April 27, 1933, she moved to Texas with her family when she was a toddler. Nonie grew up and spent the remainder of her life as a resident of San Antonio, graduating from Burbank High School in 1950. She soon met the love of her life and in 1952, married Jack Riggs.

Nonie lived a life filled with love, kindness, and unwavering devotion to her family. She was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She found joy in traveling by cruise ship, line dancing, playing Bunco, her bowling league, and most of all, spending time with her family.

Nonie is survived by her son, Michael Riggs and wife Cindy; her daughter Suzanne Chandler; her grandchildren Karissa Riggs, Nicholas Chandler and wife Crystal, and Stephanie Riggs-Thornton and husband Sean; her great-grandchildren Meghan Sansome, Brody Chandler, and Adrian Chandler; her sister-in-law, Betty Ormsby; her nieces and nephews.

Nonie was preceded in death by her loving husband of 63 years, Thomas “Jack” Riggs, Jr.; parents Aubrey and Lillian Ormsby; brother Arthur and his wife Marylin; brother David Ormsby.

Funeral services will be held September 11, 2025, 11:00am at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home, 1701 Austin Highway, San Antonio, Texas. Visitation will be held September 10, 2025, 6:00pm-8:00pm.

Nonie’s love and gentle spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
