Winston LaRue Evans--husband, brother, father and grandfather went to be with his Lord Jesus Christ on January 30, 2025, in San Antonio, Texas, after a brief illness. He was born June 18, 1943, the older of two children, to his parents, William and Frances Evans, in Fort Worth, Texas.
While he attended Paschal High School, he was on the golf team and worked at the legendary Worth Hills Golf Course. He attended the University of Texas in Austin, joined the Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity, and graduated in 1968 with a Bachelor of Architecture degree.
Shortly after moving to Houston, TX, he met the love of his life, Marilyn Thomas. They were married at St. John’s the Devine Episcopal Church in Houston on Thanksgiving evening in 1970. He and Marilyn were blessed with two daughters, Joni Christine in 1972, and Cindy Diane, in 1978. He was a devoted husband and dedicated father.
He had a stellar career as an architect for over fifty years. He spent most of his career in Houston at the Austin Company. He won several performance awards and made innovative contributions to laboratory design for varied industrial applications. He was known for his unique ability to build relationships, both in a personal and professional capacity. Many people who knew him would say that “Love thy neighbor as thy self” was not just a Bible verse, but a way of life for him.
Despite losing his wife in 2015, he found the courage to endure and continue evolving as a person. He was a bright light and his upbeat attitude and willingness to help others is remembered by all.
Survivors include children, Joni Young (James), Cindy Farris (Tim), grandchildren, Michael and Dylan Sims, Blake and Brynn Farris, Marilyn Young, sister, Fay Evans-Martin (Stephen) and niece, Nicole. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Marilyn.
The family expresses their appreciation to oncologist Dr. Scott Ulmer and the staff at Stone Oak Methodist ICU during his short stay. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society or a charity of choice.
