Wyatt is survived by his mother, Kate Strause (Jimmy Malone); father, David Thistle; grandparents, James and Kathryn Strause, and Edna Thistle; uncles, Doug and Chris Strause, and Bill Thistle; cousins, Bradley, Kayla, Savanna, and Clara; and his cherished great aunts, Beth (Kevin) and Lynda. He is also survived by a wide network of friends across the world.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Wyatt Thistle; great-grandparents, Sidney and Jean Freeborn, and Lynn and Dorothy Strause; and his beloved cousin, Harley Fetterman.
Wyatt’s mother often said, “The fabulous life of Wyatt Thistle,” and this phrase echoed throughout his journey. Born in Dallas, Texas, Wyatt’s family moved to Seattle, Washington, then Chicago, Illinois, before settling in Alamo Heights, Texas, where he attended school starting in the second grade. There, he quickly won the hearts of a tight-knit community.
From an early age, Wyatt had a passion for sports. He took great pride in being an Alamo Heights Mule, playing football and basketball for his school. After graduating high school in 2023, Wyatt began his college journey at the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss), where he joined Phi Delta Theta. He was incredibly proud to be a Rebel and could often be seen sporting his favorite Ole Miss shirts. More recently, Wyatt took up pickleball and ran a half marathon—just because.
Wyatt had a deep love for ranch life, and one of his proudest moments was hunting a deer that turned out to be a trophy 11-point buck, scoring 157 inches—far exceeding his expectations. He cherished spending time helping his family with ranch work, often feeding cattle and assisting his PopPop, who always found a way to show his appreciation. Wyatt’s “walking around money” was often more than deserved, but he was always grateful for it.
Travel was another of Wyatt’s passions. He traveled the world, with some highlights including a trip to the Virgin Islands with the Wright family, where he met his doppelganger, and a European adventure after high school, where he unknowingly met a future pledge brother. Wyatt also looked forward to his yearly trips to New Jersey to visit Grandma Thistle and Uncle Bill, as well as his trips to Leakey with the Strause family, where he loved jumping off the cliffs, starting from a very young age. His last trip to Cabo San Lucas, while tragic, was a fitting testament to his adventurous spirit. Wyatt passed away in Cabo during a boating excursion with his closest friends, doing what he loved most—living a fabulous life.
Wyatt was a beautiful soul, full of kindness and joy. The world will forever feel his absence.
