Xavier Arturo Garcia, also known as “Harv”, received his eternal reward on 3/20/2025. He passed away peacefully at Methodist Main Hospital with his family and friends by his side and surrounded by an abundance of love. He fought valiantly for several weeks to remain on this earth with those that loved him. He is now in the care of our merciful Savior.
Xavier was born at Frio County Hospital in Pearsall, Texas to Auvina G. Garcia and Roberto Rodriguez. He was raised in Dilley, Texas, where he attended elementary, middle, and high school. He was a 1987 graduate of Dilley High School, ranking 4th in his graduating class. While in high school, he participated in many extracurricular activities to include football, playing the trumpet in the marching band, Spanish Club, Theater Arts, and Future Teachers of America. He was quick witted with a gift for making people laugh. He was especially good at voice impressions, leading to a District All-Star Cast Honorable Mention for his performance as Bob in the one act play, “Of Winners, Losers, and Games”. He was also very good at woodworking, earning him a second place achievement in a state woodworking competition.
After high school, Xavier moved to San Antonio, Texas. He attended San Antonio College and performed various work-study jobs. It was there he learned the profession of locksmith, which he continued to do throughout his life. In August 1991, he became a student in the Radiology Technology Program at St. Phillips College. Following graduation in May 1993, he began his first job as an X-ray tech at University Hospital. In January 1994, he began dating his wife, Gina. A little over a year later, in the Spring of 1995, he took a position at St. Luke’s Baptist Hospital, where he eventually cross trained into Computed Tomography (CT). Xavier worked at St. Luke’s for 25 years before deciding to switch to a slower pace in a clinic setting. He worked as a CT Tech at South Texas Radiology Imaging Centers (STRIC) from the fall of 2020 to his death. He often said getting hired at STRIC was an unexpected blessing as it helped him support his family while being present for every holiday, family gathering, and soccer game. An avid college football fan, Xavier became the ultimate soccer dad in support of his son.
Xavier married his bride, Gina, on 10/28/2000. Their son, Aaron Vincenzo, was born on 6/29/2010 after 10 years of waiting patiently for God’s blessing. Xavier was a loyal, strong, and loving family man with a generous spirit. Thanks to a great mind for details he was the Garcia family historian and could replicate most family recipes from Garcia’s Café that were not written down. We will miss his sarcastic wit, hilarious imitations, and contagious sense of humor. The best listener in the world is now listening from heaven. When Xavier made a friend, it was for life. His chosen brothers and honorary pallbearers include his childhood friends, Jose Angel Torres, Carlos Duran Jr., and Robert Perez, compadre, Jesse Lerma, and college friend, Samuel Furr.
He was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Auvina G. Garcia, father, Roberto Rodriguez, older brother, Noberto Rodriguez (widow Irma), uncles, Ariel J. Garcia and Arnold J. Garcia, aunt, Carolyn J. Garcia, grandparents, Leonides Garcia, Domitila Garcia, and Eloy Garcia. He is survived by his devoted wife of 24 years, Gina M. Turella-Garcia, loving son, Aaron V. Garcia, mother-in-law, Patricia Turella, cousins, Adrienne G. Cervantez, Blanca G. Fonseca (Joey), John Huizar (Lydia), Robert Cervantez, and Raiden Cervantez. He is also survived by his siblings, BabeRuth Rodriguez (Elena), Joanne Trevino (Robert), Robert Rodriguez Jr., JoAnn Rodriguez (George), and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins that he followed faithfully on social media.
He will live on forever in our hearts.
