

Xonia Mary Kargl, born in San Antonio, TX, May 3, 1939, to Mary Locker Kargl, of Florence, AL, and Gilard J. Kargl, of Vienna, Austria died January 9, 2023. She was a graduate of Alamo Heights High School, Centenary College for Women, AA; Trinity University, BS; and Our Lady of the Lake University, MEd. She taught grades four through twelve for thirty-four years, for fifteen of those years she taught all subjects and all grades at the same time at the Salvation Army Home for Girls, a one room school house for delinquent, neglected, abused, emotionally disturbed adolescent girls who lived in a residential facility. She also taught in Germany and Thailand. She was a Fulbright Scholar to India.
She loved life, people, friends, and travel. Her life, a single girl off on a lark, took her to more than eighty countries. She also believed in giving back to the community through her work over the years with The Salvation Army, Sarah Roberts French Home, Live Oak Garden Club, Military-Civilian Club, Assistance League, and Texas Center for Infectious Disease.
Her parents and, half-brother, Rolf Kargl predeceased her. She is survived by her brother, Gilard G. Kargl and wife, Susan; nephew, Guy Kargl, and wife Kristi, their children Victoria, Braden, Ian and wife, Kamry. She is also survived by Heather Finkel, Ralph Herrmann and their children. In addition to her immediate family she is survived by innumerable friends of all ages throughout the city, country and world whom she valued dearly.
