Yvonne was firmly rooted in San Antonio and lived here most of her life. Her mother grew up in Poth, where Mom spent many happy days with her Eckel and Reinhardt cousins and extended family. Her father’s Flores and Tarin family lived in San Antonio since early 1700’s, among them were the Presidio Soldiers and Canary Island Settlers who founded the city.
From the time she was a little girl, she loved to dance, especially tap.  She graduated from Brackenridge High School, where she marched and cheered with the Purple Jackets Pep Squad.  Almost every time we passed by Alamo Stadium, she recalled the thrill of “stepping out onto the field while the band played ‘The St. Louis Blues’”. 
After high school, she earned an Associate Degree from San Antonio College, then continued training as a Medical Technologist at Santa Rosa Hospital.
At 21, she was a newlywed, living and working in Kingsville and San Diego as a Navy wife.  At 25, she had begun her Civil Service career and was a divorced mother of two children under 2.  She earned a BA from Incarnate Word College while working at Ft. Sam Houston, where she received numerous commendations from the Army for her skill, dedication, and innovations in laboratory procedures.
After 33 years in Civil Service, she retired as Chief of Quality Control at Brooks AFB School of Aerospace Medicine. In addition to being a respected and valued Medical Technologist, she enjoyed baking cakes whenever a member of the team had a birthday. Or if she wanted to try out a new recipe.  She loved reading through cookbooks and trying out new recipes.  She was once featured in the Express-News with her collection of 300+ cookbooks.
From the early 1960’s up until the COVID pandemic, she was a regular and enthusiastic Bunco player in several clubs, one group for over 30 years.  Whenever she won, she would always credit her “good partners” – which illustrates her generous nature, since Bunco is won solely by the roll of the dice.
She held several offices in the Golden Eagle Chapter of the American Business Women’s Association, and was named their “Woman of the Year” in 1992.
After retirement, she enjoyed many service and social activities as a member of the Brackenridge Alumni Association, Altar Society at St. Margaret Mary’s Catholic Church and Hermann Sons Vineta Lodge.  She had a brief career as a dealer of “antiques and collectibles”, which resulted in “lots of buying but not that much selling” (in her words).
She enjoyed spending time with her grandsons and was very proud of them.  She loved to talk with their wives and hear about the adventures of her great-grandchildren.
In early April, Yvonne was diagnosed with angiosarcoma, a rare and aggressive cancer.  She underwent chemotherapy to preserve her sight, so that she could continue to live by herself in the house where she grew up.  At the end of September, the day after what was to be her last chemo treatment, she collapsed in her home.  After a short hospital stay, she was admitted to Skilled Nursing at The Village at Incarnate Word.  Her positive attitude and cheerful personality endeared her to the entire staff there. 
The family is grateful to the staff of DeMatel House and Gentiva Hospice for the warmth and kind concern they demonstrated for Mom throughout her care.

Yvonne stepped up and became like a second mother to me after my mother passed away. Always welcomed me to join her family for Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years Eve. I would often go to the store for her or take her for a hair appointment and I enjoyed spending time with her and her precious Sheba. I will miss you Yvonne and our visits. RIP. I love you.

I remember Yvonne, Mary Ann, Aunt Elsie, and Grandma sitting around the yellow kitchen table drinking coffee, laughing and talking. Grandma always telling us kids to go play, go outside, we want to visit.
