

Zelda was born May 10, 1937 in Sabine Pass, TX to Frank and Hettie Rowe Welch. While living in Sabine Pass, she met the love of her life, Embress Arthur Hentschel. After their marriage in 1955, they set on their military journey to San Antonio, Hawaii, and Japan.
After years of working as a Professional Secretary, Zelda received her Master’s in Education and taught Office Education at South San High School. She and her husband retired to San Antonio.
Zelda was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She had an immense amount of love for her family. She taught everyone what it meant to be loved unconditionally. She always made time for school events, shopping and functions. Every holiday, birthday and anniversary was filled with joy and happiness because she remembered everyone and made them feel special.
Her favorite activities included shopping at Walmart and drinking at Starbucks. If she wasn’t doing that, she was at one of her many organizations she was involved in such as Red Hats Society, SAARTA, and Eastern Stars’. Zelda had a passion for singing in either her church choir or the Sweet Adelines. She always filled the space with her euphonious voice.
Her infectious smile and laugh were one of the best parts of being around Zelda. She always shared stories and loved hearing stories of others’. These parts and everything that Zelda was as a person will be dearly missed.
She is preceded in death by her husband Embress Arthur Hentschel. She is survived by her loving children, Bruce Hentschel, Rene’ Canamar and husband Roger; grandchildren, Jordan Hentschel, Morgan Hentschel, Casey Canamar and Krystal Canamar.
A visitation for Zelda will be held Sunday, May 14, 2023 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Sunset Northwest Funeral Home, 6321 Bandera Road, San Antonio, TX 78238. A funeral service will be conducted Monday, May 15, 2023 at 12:30 PM at University United Methodist Church, 5084 DeZavala Road, San Antonio, TX 78249 with interment to follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
