

Reverend Brian Arthur Rogan, 87, of Redlands passed away on March 4, 2012 in his home. He served the Catholic Church as a Priest for 56 years, 32 of those years in the Diocese of San Bernardino and the Diocese of San Diego. (alternatively, Dioceses of SB and SD)
Father Rogan was born in Boston, Massachusetts. He entered the Passionist Seminary in Dunkirk, New York and was professed on August 15, 1949. He was ordained to the Passionist Fathers of the Province of Saint Paul of the Cross, conferred by His Excellency, The Most Reverend Cuthbert M. O’Gara, C.C.P.D., Bishop of Yangling, China on Saturday, April 28, 1956 at St. Michaels Monastery, Union City, New Jersey. During his time as a Passionist Priest he served Holy Cross Seminary and St, Mary’s Monastery in Dunkirk, NY; St Gabriel’s Monastery in Boston, MA; Our Lady of Sorrows Monastery, West Springfield, MA; Immaculate Conception Monastery, Jamaica, Long Island, New York; St Michaels’s Monastery, Union City, NJ; St. Joseph Monastery, Baltimore, MD; St. Paul’s Monastery, Pittsburgh, PA; Holy Family Monastery, Farmington, Conn and Passionist Provincial House, Rome, Italy as the English secretary to the General Provincial of the order. Father Rogan was Incardinated into the San Diego Diocese in 1975 where he served the community of the Church of the Resurrection in Escondido. In 1980 he was incardinated into the San Bernardino Diocese, serving the parish communities of St. Bernadine Church and Sacred Heart Church in San Bernardino, Patton State Hospital, Loma Linda Hospital, Loma Linda VA Hospital and finally St. John Bosco Mission Church in Highland.
Father Rogan took great pride in his education. He received his B.A. in Philosophy and an M.A. in Counseling and Theology from St. Michael Seminary; Graduate of Pastoral Ministry Studies from Passionist Seminary; M.S.L.S. in Library Science with a minor in English Literature from The Catholic University of America; an M.A. in Communication Arts with a double minor in English Literature from The University of Notre Dame; Summer Session English Literature from the University of London; he spend time in Film Study that was credited towards a Ph. D. from the University of Southern California which continued when he went to Notre Dame he also received his Clinical Counseling Education from Spring Grove State Hospital.
His ministry included a great variety of service through educational, parish, campus and pastoral positions. He has been a valued, well-respected, and beloved student, teacher, director, creator, administrator, chaplain, uncle and friend. He was a beneficiary and a benefactor of Alcoholics Anonymous.
Visitation will be on Sunday, March 11, 2012 from 4:00-6:00pm with a Vigil Service at 6:00pm at St John Bosco Church, 28991 Merris St., Highland. Mass of The Resurrection will be on Monday, March 12, 2012 at 11:00am at Our Lady of The Rosary Cathedral, 2525 N. Arrowhead Ave, San Bernardino. Interment will follow at Our Lady Queen of Peace Cemetery in Colton. The family suggest donations be made to the charity of your choice.
