

Clara Dominguez O’Campo was born on August 12, 1924 and passed away on January 29, 2018. She passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family. Clara was born to Lucas and Matilde Dominguez in Winslow, Arizona. She attended Roosevelt Lincoln Elementary and Winslow High School. Clara was predeceased by her siblings Francis, Jose (Joe), Cecilia, Jose Dolores, Jose, Jose, Isedora, Lenora.
Clara married her love Hector J. O’Campo on February 12, 1945. They journeyed to San Bernardino in 1946 and began their family of six. She is also preceded in death by her husband Hector J. O’Campo, daughter J. Loraine O’Campo Velarde, her son and daughter in-law Roger and Betty O’Campo. Clara is survived by sons Hector O’Campo Jr. (Jennifer), Walter O’Campo daughters Cynthia Buttram (David), and Lydia Whitehead (Rick). Clara has 26 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren.
Clara and her husband Hector were owners and operators of Clara’s Mexican-American Foods and Clara’s Taco Alley in Riverside, California and Clara’s Maple Inn in San Bernardino. They retired from the restaurant business in 1977. Clara began a second career in 1979 as a bilingual language tutor with the San Bernardino Unified School District. One of her many favorite duties was to travel to the elementary schools and demonstrate how to make corn and flour tortillas from scratch. She worked in many of the San Bernardino schools as a tutor in the English as a second language program. She worked in the math and computer labs.
Clara was constantly in motion. She was active in PTA from 1950 thru 1980. She served as room mother in all of her children’s classrooms, Founders Day Chairman, PTA President. Her civic involvement entailed serving the City of San Bernardino Franchise Tax Board, Fine Arts Commission, and CDGB Committee. Worked on countless political campaigns from mayoral to governorships. She was a member of the Board of Directors for the YWCA where she served as Treasurer, Finance Chairperson, Holiday around the World Brunch Chairperson, Tennis Tournament Chairperson, and was named YWCA Woman of the Year in 1983. She was an active member in her church community teaching religious education since her early high school years. She has been a member of St. Bernadine’s Catholic Church for 40 years. She was a member of the Parish Council, Eucharistic Minister, Alter Society, and numerous terms as Fiesta Chairperson. She was an active member in the Catholic Daughters of Americas, Court Our Lady of Peace #1306 since 1982. She served numerous positions as well as Regent and District Deputy for Courts of Our Lady of the Way and Court Good Sheppard. Her sisters in Christ will forever be in her heart.
She was a Pink Lady volunteer for the St. Bernardines Hospital Auxiliary for 25 years. Was one of the original founders of the Women’s Auxiliary, Knights Lady’s Council 905. She signed the original Charter in 1954. She served countless positions including president. Clara was also instrumental in establishing the San Bernardino Villahermosa/ Mexicali Sister City committee. She was an avid supporter of Little League baseball and all youth sports. She supported all of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren by sponsoring teams and attending games and activities. Although she was very active, her family was always her top priority. She will forever be in the hearts of her family and friends.
Services officiated by Mt. View Mortuary & Cemetery, 570 E. Highland Ave. San Bernardino, CA. Viewing on Sunday, February 11, 2018 from 4:30 to 8pm. Rosary at 6:30pm. Catholic Mass on Monday, February 12, 2018 at 11 a.m. at St. Bernardines, 531 N. F St. San Bernardino, CA followed by interment at Mt. View Cemetery of San Bernardino.
