James Bartolo Viero, was a man of dedication, creativity, and humor, who cherished the simple joys in life. From his earliest days, he had a remarkable determination and inventiveness, qualities that would shape his character and endeavors throughout his life. During his preteen years, he would ride his bike miles from his home in Bloomington, to his Aunt Rose’s home in Colton, to mow her lawn. The $2.00 he earned; he saved and was able to buy his first car.
Jim attended Colton High School, where he was on the football team. After graduation he attended San Bernardino Valley College enrolling in Artech engineering. He soon became aware of the long hours sitting at a desk did not hold his interest. He wanted to be outdoors working in the dirt and especially with wood. He joined the Local Carpenter’s Union of Southern California and enrolled as a carpenter apprentice.
Jim and Donna Kirtley (now deceased), married in 1954. They had 48 wonderful years together. They built Pine Creek Garden Wedding, a beautiful outdoor venue where weddings were held for 6 months of the year. This was a dream of Donna’s that Jim was able to accomplish. He drew up the plans, cleared the land, built the chapel and outdoor seating. While building Pine Creek, Jim worked two jobs: one through the Carpenter Union and the other at Pine Creek Garden Wedding. Donna passed in 2002.
After Jim retired he met Fran. They married on May 7, 2006, and became a blended family. Jim was not able to sit still and instead he used his finished carpentry skills to make his home fit their needs.
Jim will be remembered for his sense of humor, the jokes he liked to play and his 500-ducks collection His hobbies were hunting, fishing, bowling, and dancing. Jim had a good sense of humor and really enjoyed watching westerns and playing board games. He will be fondly remembered for his carpentry skills and his love for his family.
