I wish I had the words to express how wonderful a woman you are.  The incredible strength you had to endure all the obstacles you overcame.  The love and compassion you shared with family, friends, but in my most fondest memories with strangers. I watched as you would stop a stranger on the street and run inside to make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.  There are many wonderful memories to be shared to try and capture how incredible you truly are.  But the greatest, I witnesssed, which no one can deny is your incredible faith and your daily devotiions are a testament to that.  You are home now and strangely I am at peace with that thought.  You will forever be my Great Grandma (not many can say that for as long as I have) But now you will be my saint.  I love you mucho Grandma Mercy, and I look forward to seeing you again.

THE CROSS IN MY POCKET

I carry a crosss in my pocket
A simple reminder to me
Of the fact that I am a Christian
No matter where I may be

This little cross is not magic
Nor is it a good luck charm
It isn't meant to protect me
From every physical harm

It's not for identification
For all the world to see
It's simply an understanding
Between my Savior and me

When I put my hand in my pocket
To bring out a coin or key
The Cross is there to remind me
Of the price He paid for me

It reminds me too, to be thankful
For my blessings day by day
And to strive to serve Him better
In all that I do and say

It's also a daily reminder 
Of the peace and comfort I share
With all who know my Master
And give themselves to His care

So, I carry a cross in my pocket
Reminding no one but me
That Jesus Christ is Lord of my life
If only I'll let Him be

Two Poems that say Grams all over them!!

A little pair of Rosary Beads,
  As plain as plain can be,
But only God in Heaven knows
  How dear they are to me.

I have them always with me
  At every step I take,
At evening when I slumber
  At morn when I awake.

In bright and cloudy weather,
  In sunshine or in rain,
In happiness or sorrow,
  In pleasure or in pain.

It helps me in my struggle,
  It reproves me when in sin,
Its look of gentle patience
  Rebukes the strife within.

In days of pain and anguish,
  The greatest help I knew
Was to hold my Rosary Beads
  Until I calmer grew.

So when the time approaches
  When I will have to die,
I hope my little Rosary Beads
  Will close beside me lie.

Remembering You!

I will always have special memories of our times together.

Taking you shopping, whether it was going to Pic n Save, the market or to pay your bills. Just going to your house and visiting with you was something I truly enjoyed. I'd take co-workers/friends to your house and they thought you were special too, they'd always tell me, "say hi to Grama Mercy".  They would even greet you as Grama Mercy.  You enjoyed everyone!  Later, it was to the grocery store in your wheel chair and I'd push you around with the little red basket in your lap, we'd fill it up, then take it to moms, (Lupe's) cart to empty it. lol.. we had a system.. I'd take you to the bakery section and you'd choose, not what you wanted but what someone else liked.  Always thinking of the kids/adults. But I would always put something I knew you would like.  Then when we'd be done and waiting for mom to come,  you'd remember Eric. You'd say what about Mijo? Get him some flowers.  Always remembered your Grandkids, asking about them by name. So sharp, your memory, better than mine. I could ask you what happened 20 yrs ago and you knew. 

How you enjoyed sewing...for the church, making scapulars.
I am so thankful for the sewing you did for me.  Making Edward (lalo as you'd call him when he was so little) a clown costume with leftovers from other costumes you had made. We re-used it again & again. I still have and treasure it. For the Santa & Mrs Santa Claus dolls you sewed for me for Christmas, the same way.  lol... I remember your needle would break and I'd take you to get more. I even remember when you accidently sewed into your finger.  OUCH!!  You weren't bothered by it, you would sew on.

I am grateful for your showing me how to sew, embroidery sewing, by hand. The other, for some reason I just couldnt get it. When I got my "modern sewing machine", I offered it to you because yours was so old. You said "No, you knew how to use yours".  For your love of sewing, knitting and crocheting, I have tried them all. The book of paterns you gave me I will keep safe.  The knitted baby blankets I hold dear. I promise to finish embroidering the table cloth you started and to embroider the peacock you gave me to sew. I remember when I was sewing a Disney character on the back of a fleece jacket for the boys and you looked at the back and said if Grama Frances would've seen it she'd say "esta cochina!" lol I was so surprised but you went on to explain that they'd teach you how the sewings supposed to look like the front, your not supposed to see any knotts. Wow! How impossible, but I'll try.  I was so proud of the tied blanket I made you, to finally be able to make you something in return.

Your beautiful hair, how white it was.  No ugly dark gray.  A pleasure to comb you grams, we got compliments everywhere we went.  They loved  your two, side french braids, so beautiful with the color of your hair.  lol I learned how to comb you even when you moved your head. For some reason you always moved when I was combing you.  You were always moving to see what was in front of you or who was around. "Grams your moving again".  After awhile I learned to just move with you! 

Anything that I did for you was out of LOVE, no gratitude needed but you made sure to always express you gratitude. Thank you ka-cha-nina!! a special name just for me...I felt so loved everytime you said it. 

So many memories, so many days, so many months and now it's been over a year and each and every one of them, your so very missed.

Knowing your eternity is in heaven with our loved ones and you are with God is  pure happiness!!

Grams, I'm so happy for you!

Dear Grama,

You're the perfect example of how God wants us to live our life, with "Faith, Love and Family". You always shared your faith in God with us in everything you did and loved us all unconditionally. 

I have so many wonderful memories of you, here's some I would like to share. I remember flying kites at the park, meeting you at the fence at Dunn school on recess because you were bringing me an egg and cheese burrito. It was always so good.

We went on so many walks, bus rides, taxi rides and even a trip to Mexico too. I remember going with you to clean houses, after we were done you would always buy me a treat. I enjoyed sitting on your lap it didn't matter how old I got, you always had a spot for me and it made me feel so special. 

I will always remember my mom and I taking you to church on Sundays. During mass you would look at me with a smile hold my hand and say thank you mija for bringing you to church. I would think to myself, something so simple, something that didn't even cost me a penny meant so much to you. But that's just how you were very easy to please.

I will always remember sitting around the table with you, Uncle Nick, Lisa and my mom laughing and reminiscing about Uncle Nick's old stories. We had a great time. 

You would be so proud to hear Raelynn and Sarah say their prayers. They always finish them up by saying good night Grama, Uncle Nick and Eric we love and miss you!

Grama, you're truly missed and I will cherish all my memories of you close to my heart.

Thank you for everything you did for me and my family. If It wasn't for you nothing would have been possible for me.

Mercy Melcor
On behalf of my mother -in-law Lupe Ornelas and all of Mercy's family I would like to thank you for coming today to share in our sorrow, but also to share in our joy as we celebrate Mercy's wonderful life. Mercy lived a long life filled with challenges and love for her family.
Mercy was a daughter a mother to Lupe and Nick, a sister and a auntie grandmother and great-grandmother and a great-great-grandmother, and friend to all of us. I'm sure each and every one of you here today has something to share on how Mercy touched your life.
The first thing about Mercy was that she was Love. Her love for her family, and her love of life showed in many ways. I have heard stories about how she worked hard cleaning houses, while at the same time finding time to sew for her church charity's . There was a time when Debra and myself  were involved in childrens church, we were having a church christmas play and were in need of customs. Mercy volunteered to make them for us from materials she had stored away.
 Mercy was all about love too, the way she embrace her friends and life. She showed her love when she cooked , she would always open up her doors to come over and eat or to come over to pick up food. My favorite was her chile reyenos.  Mercy's love of life was extraordinary too. She found joy in the simplest things. One of her greatest pleasures was to work out in her yard, her love for flowers and plants
The second thing about Mercy was that she was resilient. She endured all of life's bitterness and she indulged in all of life's sweetness. She suffered the loss of all her siblings.
  No matter how hard I try, I can never do justice to what she overcame in her lifetime.

 She shared a lot of good memories with me, when we would go away on weekends with my wife Debra and mother-in-law Lupe. Mercy and I would sit in the car while Debra & Lupe, would get off  the car to shop. It was easier to sit in the car then to load and unload the wheelchair. We shared lots of things together and she was one of my favorite people. 

Mercy was a strong woman, we always had short talks. Even if I didn't finish what I wanted ask her she already had an answer for it. She was also the kind of person that would think about other people before herself, something that my wife Debra inherited from her grandmother and mother. She never liked asking for help but she was always ready to lend a helping hand to others. She would do everything in her power to help other people. She would always be praying for others , before herself.
I remember when I had my first back surgery in Feb 2001. I was lying in bed one morning: I was praying and crying because my body was not functioning properly, Immediately after my devotion, still wiping my tears the phone rang and it was Mercy,
She told me that I was on her mind and she was praying for me. So she called to see how I was feeling. I told her what I was going thru, and she told me she loved me as if I were one of her own, and that God would get me thru this ordeal, And for me not worry, she would call Debra to come pick her up in the evening, so she could come over to give me an enema. Soon after we hung up, I rushed to the restroom. To this date I believe God was using his faithful servant, Mercy to  help me. Prayer works in ways we don't understand. 

The thing that I saw about Mercy, and I know we all saw, was that she was independent. Some would call it strong-willed, some would even call it stubborn. But truly, it was her unending independent spirit which made will so strong. Independence showed itself  at an early age for Mercy. Independence, resilience and love became so evident to me during the last months we spent with her. I saw her resilience when we visited her; the tuesday before she passed away.  I noticed that she seemed more frail and weak. I asked her if she was feeling okay or if she was tired. She told me, No, I'm fine. I'm not tired, I an old."

 But most of all I experienced her love during our visits.
I think in her own way she was able to show us how important we all were to her

 I would like to say thank you to my mother-in-law Lupe for the unconditional love and care you gave to your mom. Thank you to Debra, Kathy, Karen and Joseph, Jeff,  for always being there to help your mom. Thank you to Angela, and Nicole for helping your grandma and Great Grandma.

 We may no longer see her but we'll  always have these special moments we shared with her. She will always have a special part in our hearts. I'm thankful that I got to know a special lady like " Mercy".

So I'll say goodnight, not goodbye you will never leave our hearts. We will keep you in our secret place inside our soul. Keep your life, in our eyes.  Thank you for your prayers and help. I will never forget the memories of friendship that we have. I will always remember your caring love, for all the people you are around your spirit stays in their heart.

These two poems remind me so much of you. It is always your faith in God that kept you so  strong. All the tribulations  throughout  your life and your beliefs never   wavered .  I love and miss you grams, always  Kathie

Are you walking in the wind, your head held high, a smile on your face.  Telling everyone Hi? Did you meet up with family and friends. You had so many!  
Of course you're in a castle. The simple things in life were all you wanted. Your religion, family and friends were enough for you. 
 How did you do it when we were all there, the food was simple but the best we could ever have. How it fed all of us who could know.  The love you gave everyone overflowed into everything you did.
  Prayers for all. Your beliefs were shared with whoever wanted to know.  Your beautiful stories, even the sad ones will be missed.  Grams your life was a long blessed one. Your faith never faltered, God threw a curve every now and then. Your strength is what carries us, you were our best example of it. Don't give up, keep going, keep praying. Everything will be ok. 
Always grateful, always thankful, you didn't realize it was a privilege to be able to do for you...throughout all our lives, from childhood to even adulthood you were always caring for someone. The tables had turned, it's our turn.  Could we return to you the loving care you had always given us. 
NO! but we were there to try. To reassure you that we wanted to.  Our turn. We took it gladly. You were our angel.  SELFISH we wanted to keep you here.  When you'd say, "I'm ready", we would say "but grams we want you here," yes we were a selfish lot.  You're our grams! How could we let you go, it would be the end, we wouldn't have you here, our precious Grams, we were so selfish. We saw you falter.  You were still fighting to be here, our loving angel. We had to think of you, we couldn't see you struggling. Grams go to heaven, we love you, we will always love you, watch over us. Don't worry about us, we will be ok. You will always be with us.  We all were with you that week. Then God answered our prayers and these weren't selfish prayers. Grams we prayed that when he decided to take you, it would be in your sleep and there would be no pain or suffering.
Thank you Jesus!
With so much love we give you our Grams. We can see her walking in Heaven, laughing with family and friends...loving you always Grams til our eternity! 
Now your only son, our  beloved Uncle Nickie  is with you. How I wish he could have stayed here with us.  He's with you Grams that's something all of us look forward to, someday.

Are hearts ache knowing are beloved friend has leftthis world to a new life in heaven. Mercy you were always so sweet to us. We enjoyed talking, and visiting with you. Love and miss you. Armando, and Darla Espinoza

Aunt Mercy was such a wonderful, kind and loving lady. We will always remember her  contagious laugh and her beautiful smile. 
The love that Aunt Mercy shared with all of us will forever be held in our hearts.
