A beloved husband, Kuya (respected older brother), close relative and friend, Robin “Rob” J Pettengill, was reunited with our Lord on April 3, 2020. His loving wife, Elizabeth “Beth” Dalde, was nearby and spent a fulfilling last day by his side, along with close friend, Lori, and Rev Duong Nguyen. Rob was born on April 25, 1946, in San Bernardino, California, to his parents, Frederick Henry Pettengill and Jean Evelyn Capfer. Rob attended Pacific High School and enlisted in the Airforce shortly after, where he sustain a service-ending head injury which necessitated the relearning of all daily functions. As he continued to heal, he began umpiring and coaching youth baseball. He also very much enjoyed golfing and playing video games to improve eye-hand coordination, connecting with family, and working at his father’s sign business. He became a father himself in the spring of 1985. Richard was born on May 31st to him and his first wife, Ofelia. On January 26, 2002, Rob re-married. With Beth by his side, they were deeply involved with their community. He announced play-by-play action for youth baseball on the weekends, taught Beth the game of golf and they played, bowled in an Elks recreation league together, and continued his honorable involvement with the San Bernardino Elks Lodge #836 (Rob as past Exalted Ruler 2001-2002)and Emblem Club #178 (Beth as current Marshal Officer 2018-2020). They visited the Philippines in 2007, where Beth introduced Rob to her family; it was an unforgettable, wonderful experience. He was known for having endearing names, both proper and from his imagination, for those he was closest to, and he didn’t hesitate to share his witty sense of humor. After suffering a stroke many years ago, Rob was never without Beth’s love and daily support. His health took a dramatic decline during this past year. He was a fighter until the very end.
Rob is survived by his wife, Beth; son, Richard; brother-in-law, Randall L King, and his children: Steven, Christina, and Bonnie; sister-in-law, Charlotte A Pettengill, and her children: Audrey and Laura; great nieces and nephews, cousins, extended family, and countless friends.
Rob is preceded in death by his parents, Frederick and Jean; brother, Fred R Pettengill, and sister, Nancy J King. He was 73 years old.
Private viewings will be held on April 16, 2020, at the Mountain View Mortuary Chapel, 570 E Highland Avenue, San Bernardino, California. With the current international health concerns and travel restrictions, attendance must be arranged in advance. He will be laid to rest at the Riverside National Cemetery on April 20, 2020. A virtual service may be available for distant family and friends to find closure with this devastating loss. For those unable to attend, a future service will be scheduled (to be determined) at the San Bernardino Elks Lodge. Please, no flowers or plants – send love and prayers.
