

Roy Madrid also known as Dad or Tata age 87 passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Thursday September 21,2023. Roy was born in Compton CA. on June 6,1936 to Ruth “Cuca” and Raul Cebrero Madrid.
Roy, a proud Cardinal, attended San Bernardino High School and graduated in 1955 where he met and later married the love of his life, Mary Reyes Avila on August 26, 1956.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Mary Reyes Madrid, his son Roy Madrid (Susie), son-in-law James Bennetts (Renee), daughters Rosie Hernandez (Anthony), Rachel Madrid, and Becky Madrid-Duran; 11 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren. In addition, he is survived by his sister, Rebecca Arredondo and brother, Frank Madrid, and countless god-children, nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his daughter Renee Bennetts, parents Raul and Ruth, and brothers Raul, Ruben, Joe, Robert, Louie, and Rudy.
In high school, Roy was an original member of the Gents. As a teenager, Roy delivered groceries for Frank’s Market. This is where he met his beautiful bride-to-be. After graduating high school, he started working at Santa Fe Railroad for 6 years. During this time, he completed the apprenticeship for Journeyman Carman. In 1961, he began working at Bridgeport Brass in Riverside, CA., which would later become Alcan Aluminum and then Luxfer U.S.A. where he retired. Roy was a member of the United Steelworkers and had the honor to serve as a Civil Rights Representative. During his 39 years Roy had perfect attendance with the exception of 15 weeks to recover from a heart attack in 1996. Roy looked forward to his monthly breakfast with his retired coworker friends.
Roy’s favorite time of the year was football season as he was an avid Chiefs fan. He loved his red and gold. He loved collecting coins and hot wheels , dancing, swap meets, thrift stores, good spicy food, and especially his music. He enjoyed a multitude of artists in various genres including Perez Prado, Fania All Stars, Little Joe, Johnny Cash, Wilson Pickett, Los Panchos, and Los Dandy’s.
He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
A visitation for Roy will be held Wednesday, October 4, 2023 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Mt. View Mortuary & Cemetery, 570 East Highland Ave, San Bernardino, CA 92404. A funeral service will occur Thursday, October 5, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, 570 East Highland Ave, San Bernardino, CA 92404. A committal service will occur Thursday, October 5, 2023 from 11:15 AM to 12:00 PM, 570 East Highland Ave, San Bernardino, CA 92404.
