March 18, 1926 – April 13, 2017
Born in Manatí Puerto Rico, Rubén attended Louisiana State University earning a degree in Mechanical Engineering. During his career he worked as an engineer for the Puerto Rico Power Company and later as a civilian at the El Toro Marine Corps Air Station, Norton Air Force Base, and the Barstow Marine Corps Logistics Base. He served his country in the U.S. Army and U.S. Navy during both WWII and the Korean War.
Rubén met his wife Esther (also a Puerto Rican native) in Indiana. They chose to move back to Puerto Rico to live and raise a family of three daughters Elsie, Edda and Judith and a son Rubén Jaime. When the children were in their teens, the family made the big move to the U.S. mainland to stay close to the children while they attended college. They chose California where Ruben’s large family had settled back in the 1950’s. A true Puerto Rican, Rubén brought his traditions to the U.S., primarily the traditional foods (including occasional pig roasts), and his love for large and welcoming gatherings of friends and family. Rubén’s friends, family, and future descendants will cherish and remember the always giving family man he was. Rubén is survived by Esther his wife of 55 years, daughters Elsie, Edda and Judith and son Rubén Jaime, 8 grandchildren, and a large extended family in California, Indiana and Puerto Rico.
Funeral mass will be held at St. Bernardine Church Catholic Church in San Bernardino, CA, April 28th, 2017 at 7:30 AM, followed by burial services at Riverside National Cemetery and reception at March Field Air Museum in Riverside.
Arrangements under the direction of Mt. View Mortuary & Cemetery, San Bernardino, CA.
