Abigail was born in Yahualica, Jalisco, and grew up in Guadalajara. She later moved to San Diego, where she married her devoted husband, Celso L. Campa, on August 21, 1949. Together, they raised their loving family of seven children, spending their lives in San Diego.
Abigail was a dedicated and hardworking woman who spent more than 30 years working in the Westgate and Van Camp canneries. Her commitment to her family was matched only by her deep faith and involvement in the Guadalupe Church Parish. She was an active member of the Guadalupanas and Altar Society, taking on the role of lead chef for the Sunday breakfasts at the church. Abigail's devotion to her family, parish, and her two surviving siblings, Alicia Mendiola and Felix Ruiz, were the cornerstones of her life.
Throughout life, Abigail's love for singing brought joy to all who knew her. Her joyful spirit and beautiful voice were the highlight of family gatherings and celebrations, with her voice filling the air with melodic tunes and contagious laughter.
Abigail was preceded in death by her husband, Celso L. Campa, and her son Gabe Campa. She leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories in the hearts of her children: Beto Campa (Chayo Campa), Martha Campa (Joe Martinez), Rodrigo Campa, Abby Najjar (Maurice Luque), Maggie Barrios (Bill Barrios), and Minnie Rzeslawski (Luis Rzeslawski). She was also a proud grandmother to 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, each of whom she loved deeply.
In her final moments, Abigail was cared for by her loving family, surrounded by their unwavering support and care. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Abby and Maurice for their dedicated assistance in caring for our precious mom.
In this time of mourning, we remember Abigail for her strength, her unwavering faith, and her ability to bring happiness to those around her. Her presence will be deeply missed, but her memory will forever live on in the stories, songs, and love she shared with us all.
May Abigail R. Campa rest in peace, knowing the profound impact she had on her family, her community, and everyone fortunate enough to have known her.
