

Aguido M. Torio, 92, departed this life peacefully on June 6 in San Diego surrounded by loved ones. Born in Binmaley, Pagasinan, Philippines, Aguido (known by friends as Ed or Eddie), joined the U.S. Navy in 1946 and served for 21 years as chef and chief steward to admirals of the Western Pacific Fleet in Coronado, Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, and San Diego. Following his retirement from the Navy, he served as the Food and Beverage Director of the Admiral Kidd Club and chef for El Pollo Loco and Olive Garden, delaying full retirement until his 80s. He is predeceased by his parents Agaton and Anastascia Torio of Binmaley. He is survived by his wife of 45 years Sonia Torio; daughters Katherine Croze, Janet Ballardo, and De'Ette Doerr of Jenks, Oklahoma; grandsons John Alford of Phoenix, Arizona, Sean Ballardo of Aurora, Colorado, Derek Doerr of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, and Justin Manalo, Christian Antonio and Benedict Antonio of San Diego; granddaughters Stephany Ballardo of San Pedro, Darla Montenegro of Diamond Bar, Danelle Raper of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, and Nicole Manalo of San Diego; and great-grandchildren Jordan Taylor Reyes and Ryan Levine of San Pedro, Michaela Velazquez and Sara Corona of Diamond Bar, Hunter Ballardo of Colorado, Zoie, Katy and Jace Alford of Phoenix, Arizona, Mason Manalo Cao of San Diego, and Deacon Doerr of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. A memorial service will be held at Miramar MCAS, Main Chapel, Building 5632, on June 29 at 11 a.m. Honor ceremony will be held the same day at Miramar National Cemetery at 1:30 p.m.
