Alfredo Hermosura Vilano took his first breath in Heaven on July 31, 2023 at the age of 81. Born on December 3, 1941 to Bernardo and Manuela Vilano in Urdaneta, Pangasinan, Philippines, he was the 3rd child of one daughter and five sons. We honor the life of a remarkable man who embarked on diverse paths of service, faith, and devotion that would touch countless lives in so many ways.
Alfredo joined the United States Navy and came to America, where he served for 21 years and achieved his status as Chief Petty Officer before retiring. Following his honorable service, Alfredo transitioned into the world of real estate and insurance, working side by side with his wife, embodying the same commitment and integrity he exhibited in uniform. Later in life, Alfredo and his family embraced a spiritual calling, and they dedicated their lives to God. Serving as an elder at Calvary Chapel of Mira Mesa, his unwavering faith and evangelical nature served as a guiding light, leaving an enduring influence on loved ones and everyone he touched.
Papa Fred is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Tina Elegado Vilano, his beautiful children Tina Marisol and Alfredo Jr, his amazing grandchildren Brock Jr and Vanessa Marie, his son-in-law Anson Cape, and his brothers, Virgilio and Romeo Vilano. Papa Fred will be missed as a loving son & brother, devoted husband, loving father & Papa, dedicated veteran, spiritual leader, and dear friend to us all.
A celebration of Alfredo’s life will be held on Saturday, August 19, 2023, at 3pm at El Camino Memorial Sorrento Valley. Friends and family are invited to come together to remember, honor, and share stories of his life. The service beginning at 4pm will be a reflection of Papa Fred’s vibrant life and will include full military honors at 6pm with a reception to follow.
One of his favorite quotes that he loved and lived by is “The Joy of the Lord is my strength” which comes from the Bible verse Nehemiah 8:10. “Go your way, eat the fat, drink the sweet, and send portions to those for whom nothing is prepared; for this day is holy to our Lord. Do not sorrow, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.” We love you Papa Fred.
