

Andrew William Autio, Jr. (Bill) of Coronado, CA and Spearfish, SDak died February 17, 2014. Born in 1929 in Lead, a gold mining town in SDak, he spent most of his life as an educator starting as a teacher and coach. After completing his PhD at the University of Nebraska he went to Los Alamos, NM as a district administrator and then to CA where he was Assistant Superintendent of the South Bay Union School District.
He helped found the Boys and Girls Club in Imperial Beach. He enjoyed volunteering with Prison Fellowship & the pulmonary unit at the UCSD Medical Center. The Coronado Safe Program was also an interest. The people in the churches he belonged to were very important to him.
Bill was active in outdoor activities and sports and loved creative writing. He was a concerned and moderate environmentalist, who worked on related issues particularly in the Black Hills.
He was preceded in death by his wife Sheila and his son Fred. He's survived by his daughter Shari and her husband Richard Hogan, his stepson Harold & his wife Terri, his stepdaughter Linda, his granddaughters Erin & Elizabeth, his two brothers Clyde and Darrell, close relatives, and dear friends.
A remembrance service will be held Sunday, March 16th at 11:15 at his Christian Church in Coronado, CA which meets in the cafeteria of The Village Elementary School located on H Ave. between Sixth & Seventh St. There will be a service in SDak at a later date.
