April 27, 1921–March 13, 2013
Angeline Boucher was born Angeline Lucia Malatino on April 27, 1921, in Watertown, New York. Angie was the fifth of six children born to Italian immigrants Rose Galluccio Malatino and Salvatore "Sam" Malatino.
Angie always had a strong allegiance to her family and was never afraid of hard work. As a child, she helped out by weeding in the family garden and by wheeling a cart around her neighborhood with her younger brother, selling fruits and vegetables door to door to earn extra money for her family. She enjoyed school and was a good student. Her favorite subject was reading and her favorite poem was Joyce Kilmer's "Trees." As a teenager, Angie spent her senior year of high school caring for her ailing mother, who would pass away that year.
As a young woman, Angie had a passion for dancing and spent many a Saturday night dancing at the local USO. Her favorite singer was Frank Sinatra and she loved to tell the story of how she and her girlfriends saved up for a bus ride to New York City to see him in concert.
Angie met her husband, John Boucher, of Bronx, in the late 1940s at the JC Penney where she worked. They married on April 16, 1950, in Watertown and immediately relocated to Syracuse, where they soon found work with General Electric. Angie and John began a family in 1953, when John junior was born. He was followed by Robert, Patricia, Rosemarie, and William.
While raising her children in North Syracuse, Angie worked part-time at Robert Hall clothier and then Olan Mills Portrait Studio, where she held the title of top saleswoman in her district several years in a row. She and the family moved to San Diego in 1977, when John retired from GE. In San Diego, Angie (and John) attended San Diego Mesa College, where she earned her associate's degree in interior design. She continued to work in her new hometown as a saleswoman for several small establishments and at JC Penney in Fashion Valley mall during the 1980s.
Angie will be remembered as a devout Catholic who prayed the rosary daily and as a selfless, generous, and loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, whose family was her lifeblood. She was an avid reader and an excellent baker and cook as well.
Angie is predeceased by her husband John, who passed on in 1999, as well as her parents, her brother John, her brother Dominic, her sister Mary, her brother Joseph, and her brother Emilio. She is survived by all five of her children, John, Bob, Pat, Rose and Bill (Tami) and son-in-law Eric Leenerts as well as her grandchildren Melissa Post (Ryan), Jennifer Saucedo (Donovan), Katy Leenerts, Gina Leenerts, Danny Leenerts, Brian Leenerts and Billy Boucher, and her great-grandson Gabriel Saucedo.
A visitation will be held on Monday, March 18, from 4 to 8:30 p.m. at Clairemont Mortuary (4266 Mt. Abernathy Ave., San Diego), followed by a funeral Mass on Tuesday, March 19, at 10 a.m. at St. Catherine Labouré Parish, 4124 Mt. Abraham Ave., San Diego.
