Angelo Carnevale, “JR” to his friends and acquaintances, passed away peacefully on February 2, 2024 at the age of 94. He was married to his wife, Carole, for over 65 years until her passing in 2019.
JR entered the Navy in 1953, attended officer candidate school, and was commissioned as an officer in 1953. He served on six diesel powered submarines, and was commanding officer of the USS Tench. He also served in various staff and teaching positions during his 21 years in the Navy. After retiring from the Navy, JR worked for several defense system contractors, including the Naval Ocean Systems Center in San Diego. He also volunteered for 10 years in the Retired Senior Volunteer Patrol program for the City of San Diego Police Department.
After moving from coast to coast every few years during his military career, in 1974 JR and his wife settled in La Jolla. JR and Carole are survived by their two daughters, Susan and Sandra, who also reside in the San Diego area.
