Armando Saluta will be forever remembered as he passed away peacefully in the arms of his loving wife, children, and grandkids on Sunday October 27, 2024, in San Diego, California, bravely battling metastatic cancer.
Armando was born on May 28, 1941, in Manila, Philippines to Lazaro and Gloria Saluta. He grew up in a provincial town called Bacnotan, La Union in the Philippines with his brother Jaime. After graduating from Feati University with a mechanical engineering degree, he enlisted in the United States Navy, and proudly served more than 20 years, especially on the USS Wright Ship during the Vietnam War.
He came to America in 1960 while stationed in San Diego, California and then Annapolis, Maryland. He met his wife Violeta in Philadelphia, and moved to Norfolk, Virginia where he was stationed for several years. After the birth of their three children in Virginia, Armando and his family moved to San Diego, California in 1975 where he was stationed. He worked on various naval ships like the USS Dixie and USS Gompers, taking multiple tour of duties abroad. After serving 20 years in the U.S. Navy, Armando pursued careers with the postal service, cannery industry in Alaska, and owning and managing several residential care facilities for the developmentally disabled children while raising his own three children.
Armando was a gentle, unassuming man with a hidden sense of humor who liked to tell stories and do magic tricks for the grandkids. He found joy in cooking and preparing meals for others, playing chess with the kids and poker with the guys, and celebrating every occasion making sure to never miss a birthday or anniversary. Family get-togethers for holidays and any occasion delighted him, especially when it included all the relatives and friends. A good week for Armando would include his daily walks, charting his favorite sports teams, gardening, cooking his signature sinigang for the grandkids, then getting together with his extended family on weekends. He was an inviting, easygoing, and a sentimental man.
Armando was preceded to heaven by his parents Lazaro and Gloria Saluta. He is survived by his wife Violeta; his three children Arvin, Alan and Antonette with their respective partners Christian, Gerrylou, and Jim Harris; five grandchildren Audree Jade, Autumn Raine, Arianna Lynn, Andrew Ryan, Adrian Gage; and brother Jaime Saluta. While we mourn the loss of our beloved dad, many remember a dear friend and mentor. He has been a strong father figure to many of our relatives and friends. His impact extends beyond family to friends and relatives who cherished his guidance. He will be fondly missed, leaving an indelible mark on our lives.
Let us remember the past with gratitude, live the present with conviction, and look forward to the future with hope.
