Aurelio was the youngest of 10 brothers and sisters. Aurelio’s father Benito working for the railroad moved the family to Wickenburg, Arizona at an early age. By 1940, Aurelio’s parents had divorced.
Aurelio’s mother decided to move to San Diego where they settled on L St. in Logan Heights. Aurelio attended memorial elementary, memorial junior high school, and San Diego High School.
In 1951 at the age of 17, Aurelio would obtain a work permit so that he could begin working at Rohr industries in Chula Vista. In 1952, Aurelio was drafted by the US Army where he would serve for 2 years stationed in the San Francisco Bay Area.
After serving his country, Aurelio went back to Rohr Industries where he would spend the next 58 years moving up the ranks through the Aerospace industry working as a production control specialist moving plane parts along the assembly line. Aurelio had the good fortune of working with his two older brothers Rosalio (Tiny) Puente the Rohr local union President and Benito Puente a Rohr union Business representative. Aurelio also had the opportunity of working with his son Aurelio Jr. for 5 years.
In November 1960, Aurelio married Graciela Josefina Rubalcava in the city of San Diego. Aurelio and Graciela raised 5 children, Alejandro R. Puente, Aurelio R. Puente, Gabriel R. Puente, Marco A. Puente, and Erika Puente. Even though Aurelio was a full time dad, he would find time to dedicate to orphan children who needed warmth and affection.
In 2002 having worked for 50 years, Aurelio received the highest company recognition for his dedication and commitment to Rohr Industries. Unfortunately in 2012, Aurelio’s career came to an end after undergoing lower back surgery.
After retiring, Aurelio had the opportunity to enjoy his family on a full time basis.
Aurelio G. Puente is survived by all his 5 children, 14 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren. Aurelio was a hardworking and devoted loving father always making sure his family was taken care of. As a loving grandfather, Aurelio always enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. Aurelio was known for his generosity to his children, daughter in laws, and grandchildren.
Aurelio G. Puente will be missed but never forgotten.
