Barbara was born to David and Dorothy Levin in March 1936 in Winnipeg, Canada. She grew up with two siblings, Martin and Morry.
While at university, Barbara met the love of her life, Morley Barsky. They married, started their family and moved to San Diego, where Morley was a head and neck surgeon. He passed away in 2004.
Barbara loved to take on new challenges. While raising her family, she went to law school and became a practicing lawyer. She later became a real estate investor and developer.
She was also passionate about learning anything she could about any subject. She was an avid reader and could usually be relied upon to offer a detailed take on the merits and drawbacks of insightful new books. She also loved to travel, especially with her family, and going to theater whenever possible.
Barbara is survived by her brothers Martin Levin (and his wife Rosalynn Voaden) and Morry Levin (and his wife Michelle), her three children Mara Barsky, Rick Barsky (and wife Lynn), and Joanie Bernicker (and husband Jeff), as well as her five beloved grandchildren Alexa Barsky Klein (and husband Robert), Amanda Barsky, Michael Barsky, Julia Bernicker, and Lucas Bernicker.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her honor to The Old Globe or to Jewish Family Service of San Diego.
