Becky Catherine O’Neill, 95, passed away peacefully on February 24, 2016 in Poway, CA. Born in Windsor, Ontario, Canada on November 29, 1920, she was the daughter of Lloyd and Edith Taylor. She met her husband, James Henry O’Neill, during her school years. Always a lady with the best of manners, she deferred to her older brother, Stanley Taylor, asking if he would allow for the date to occur. Stanley agreed, and Jim, who was an incredible dancer, literally swept her off her feet. They were married in 1943. They were from a generation who knew how to work. She worked long hours as a hairdresser, supporting Jim, while he obtained his engineering degree. After they moved to the States in 1949, they had two sons. James Francis O’Neill (Jim) and Kenneth Robert O’Neill (Ken) were born in Detroit, Michigan. The family lived in Detroit, Michigan and Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, where Becky excelled at being the ultimate housewife, a beloved wife and mother. She loved to entertain, kept an immaculate household, and always had a fabulous meal on the table. She was a beautiful woman, inside and out, who was the definition of class. Jim and Becky moved out to San Diego, CA in 1997, to be closer to their family and spent their retirement years enjoying the sunshine. Becky was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years. She is survived by her longtime friend, Keith Black; her two children, Jim O’Neill (Dora), Ken O’Neill (Leslie); six grandchildren, Kristina Sale (Dave), Kelly O’Neill (Dan), Taylor O’Neill, Glenn O’Neill, Heather O’Neill, and Macayla O’Neill; and her three great-grandchildren, Samantha Sale, Cameron Sale, and Declan Mraz. A viewing is scheduled Sunday, March 6, 2016, between 2 - 4 PM at El Camino Mortuary. The funeral will take place at 1 p.m. Monday (March 7, 2016) at the El Camino Memorial Park, with Pastor Dorie Gerber officiating.
