It was both a pleasure and an honor to serve as a docent with Bill. I am the newest docent but from the moment I first showed up, Bill made me feel right at home. He had an effervescent personality and his enthusiasm infected all the recruits. He also had an encyclopedic knowledge about the Corps. The recruits loved him. I will miss you Bill.

I'm so sorry for his family's loss, and they are in my thoughts and prayers.  I did not know Bill Westmoreland, but he sounded like a wonderful man.

1st Sgt, I will miss coming up to the top of the stairs, 0730 on Wednesdays at the Museum and you standing there with your hands on your hips looking at your watch.    Being able to hear you at the other end of the museum as soon as you get into the hallway on the 2d deck. Your presence always a Marines Marine was on deck. And your pep talks to me when no one was around made me feel important as a former marine. His knowledge and eagerness to share that knowledge could be seen every time he spoke to Recruits, Marines, Families. My heart goes out to his family for the loss of this larger than life Marine.

Always loyal, Uncle Bill, a person rrue to himself. You taught me how to play checkers the right way and gave me no breaks.  And  that taught me a llifelong lesson about succeding by your own efforts. Thanks, Uncle Bill, I'll always love you.

My sweet Marine! You had me the moment I saw you as a little girl in your dress blues. I will always remember your hugs and dry sense of humor and as I got older they got more..well adult. I don't know how we will have Thanksgiving with at you at the head of the table. I loved you very much I am glad I got to tell you. Shannon B. Reilly (niece)

It's still hard to believe you're gone.  I think sometime the phone will ring and it will be you and we can tell each other sea stories.  Thinking of the 1966 Christmas we spent together in Vietnam.  Semper Fi Brother

I am so sorry to hear of Bill's passing.  When I worked for Water Dept. of the City of San Diego, I had the pleasure of meeting Bill and he always brought a smile to my face.  I am a daughter of a Marine and I know they are a rare breed.  Semper Fi Bill.

I still cannot believe he has left us.  He meant so much to me beginning at the day I met him in 1962 at Camp San Mateo
on Camp Pendleton.  He was like a Dad, a great friend, yet my Leader.  I will never forget him.  What a wonderful man... Norma and family, I am so sorry for your loss.
