Our family is deeply saddened to inform you that our mother Carmelita “Mely” Vera Cruz, aged 71, passed away at Naval Medical Center San Diego on Friday, May 25th, 2018 due to complications of chemotherapy. She was diagnosed with Leukemia in late April of this year. We are relieved that her passing was peaceful and painless.
She was born to the late Angel and Rosa Damasco on May 6, 1947 in Mabini, Pangasinan, Philippines. Mely attended the University of the East in Manila and studied business. Mely came to the United States in 1974 where she met her late husband Claudio Vera Cruz and were married July 1976.
Survivors include her three children: Claudette, Cecile, Clarence, granddaughters: Adelina and Fiona, and her home canine companion Vegas.
Mely enjoyed spending time tending to her plants, fruits, and vegetables that she always made available to friends and family. She loved working on home projects that kept her busy in her retirements years. She was a great cook and baker. She loved to feed family and friends.
She will be loved and remembered for her industriousness, ingenuity, generosity, her cooking and baking. Mely is now at peace with her loving husband and her other loving home canine companion Cabo.
