SAN DIEGO, CA – Carol passed away peacefully after a year-long courageous battle with ovarian cancer in Hospice Care at Sharp Memorial Hospital. She spent the last days of her life surrounded by loving members of her family.
She was born to Kasey and Margaret Christensen in Alameda, California, during World War II, while her father, an officer in the U.S. Merchant Marine, served in convoys throughout the Pacific. After the war, she moved with her family to Eugene, Oregon, where she grew up with her younger sister, Linda, and attended school, graduating from South Eugene High School in 1962.
She then enrolled at Oregon State University, where she became a member of Alpha Phi Sorority. There she met her future husband, Bill. She left school after her junior year to get married and move to Kentucky, to be with Bill while he served the balance of his active duty in the Army. From there she moved to San Diego, where she worked at Union Bank and put Bill through law school. Once Bill finished law school, Carol enrolled at SDSU where she completed her degree in accounting.
Thereafter she went to work for the California Board of Equalization, as a Tax Auditor. She worked there for over thirty years before retiring as a Supervising Tax Auditor to devote her time to her family, particularly her children and grandchildren. One would often find her with them at the beach and at Padre games.
During her life Carol was an inveterate skier, scuba diver, boogie boarder, paddle boarder and Padre’s fan. In fact, many may remember her as the lady who was hit in the head by the bat at the Padre game a few years ago.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents Margaret and Kasey Christensen and her younger sister Linda (Turner). She is survived by her husband, Bill Holman of San Diego, son Mark Holman and daughter-in-law, Christy Holman, grandchildren, Ryan Fitzgerald and Breanna Holman of Yorba Linda, CA, daughter Traci, ne Gallagher, son-in-law, Jonathan Gallagher, grandchildren, Brady Gallagher, Parker Gallagher and twin granddaughters, Ashlyn and Peyton Gallagher, of Encinitas, CA.
Carol’s Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 am, on July 21, 2021, at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 2808 Cadiz Street, San Diego, CA 92110.
In lieu of flowers, the family recommends contributions be made in Carol’s memory to the Clearity Foundation, an organization providing one to one science-based treatment information to patients and families suffering from ovarian cancer, 2820 Roosevelt Road, Ste 204, San Diego, CA 92106.
