

Cecil was born February 26, 1922, in a farmhouse near Vermillion, Kansas, the son of Patrick and Cecilia (Schmidt) Welch. He attended schools in Nemaha County, Kansas, graduating from Corning High School, Corning, Kansas, in 1940.
He served in the U.S. Army during WWII, and in Japanese occupation duty after the war. After he was discharged, he returned to San Diego, where he worked in the aircraft industry for many years. In 1975, he married Ida O'Neil, in San Diego, and they later moved to Everett, Washington, where he worked for Boeing. She passed away December 18, 1988. He then returned to San Diego.
Mr. Welch is survived by two step-sons, Daniel Hyde and Robert Hyde, by three grandchildren and five great grandchildren. He is also survived by six brothers: John, Elwyn, Claude, Merle, Lillis, and Lauren, by a sister Regina, and 49 nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by brothers Donald, Patrick, Martin, and Maurice, and by a sister Patricia.
Visitation for family and friends will be Wednesday, December 19, from 2:00 - 4:00 pm, at the Goodbody Mortuary.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 2:00 pm Thursday, December 20, 2012, at St. Columba Catholic Church, San Diego, California, with the Reverend Mario Elias officiating. Interment will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, San Diego.
