We lost “Big Ed” Wednesday, January 22. His passing will leave a big hole in the hearts of family and friends. Charles Edward Lemmon was born Aug 11, 1940 in Independence Missouri to Charlie and Catherine Lemmon. At 4 yrs of age his mother brought him and his sister to Coronado. It was the perfect place for little Eddie to play on the beach and sit atop an old piling , fishing; his great love.
Ed spent most of his life growing up in Pacific Beach, graduating from Mission Bay HS in 1958. After service in the U.S. Army he spent 9 years with the National City Police Department. He tried his hand at commercial fishing and ended up in custom home construction. He built the home his family has lived in for 48 years here in Poway.
He was a loving husband of 60 years for Dorothy, father to Ed Jr (Shirley) and Amy (David) Plotkin, Grandfather to Joshua, Nicholas, Anna (Matt) Thomalla, Katie and Great-grandfather to Able Thomalla. He is survived by his three sisters; Patricia, Priscilla and Shiela.
His patience and generosity will long be remembered. Most of all we will miss his sense of humor, always having a story to tell or joke of the day. In his memory we ask that you enjoy life, find friends in everyone, help whom ever is in need and share all the stories and laughs that you can.
Military honors at Miramar National Cemetery, 5795 Nobel Dr, will be held Monday, February 10 at 10:15, followed by a Celebration of life at Poway Community Church, 13501 Community Rd, at 12:15.
