Chen Fen Huang, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully in the early morning of April 6, 2025, in San Diego, California, at the age of 88. Born on December 18, 1936, in Fuan Village, Xiushui Township (Sho-Swei), Changhua County, Taiwan, Chen brought joy and warmth to everyone who knew her.
She was born and raised in Sho-Swei, a small rural village in central Taiwan known for its farming traditions, historic homes, and tight-knit community. Her early life in Fuan Village, surrounded by rice fields and family, instilled in her the values of resilience, generosity, and deep appreciation for life’s simple blessings.
Chen was the heart of her family—a beautiful soul known for her constant smile, generous spirit, and unwavering love. As a devoted grandmother and great-grandmother, she adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and took immense pride in watching them grow. Her presence was a source of comfort, strength, and happiness for all generations of her family.
She had a deep passion for cooking and was always ready to fill the home with delicious food and bring people together around the table. She made sure everyone around her was well-fed, often calling out your name and saying “吃飯” (“eat!”) in Taiwanese—a simple yet powerful way she expressed her love through every meal. Whether preparing a feast for the holidays or simply sharing a favorite dish, her meals were made with care, tradition, and heart.
A true lover of life’s simple joys, Chen found peace in her garden, tending to her plants with patience and pride. She also loved playing mahjong, often lighting up the room with laughter and friendly competition.
Chen was incredibly strong, courageously battling kidney disease until her very last breath. Even in her final days, her mind remained clear and sharp. She remembered and recognized the names and faces of everyone she loved, offering warmth and connection that comforted her family until the very end.
She is survived by her loving husband, Chin; her devoted children—daughter Donna (husband Yim Ming), and sons Ray (wife Mei Lin), Andy (wife Fei Yin), Roger (wife Jessica), and Jim; her cherished grandchildren—Bobby, Karen (husband Raul), Jessie, Willis, Jon, and Alan; and her beloved great-grandchildren, Aiden and Jenna.
She leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and joy that will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
A memorial service will be held at El Camino Memorial Park (5600 Carroll Canyon Rd, San Diego, CA 92121), Lotus Chapel, at 9:00 AM on April 24, 2025, where friends and family will gather to celebrate her life.
The burial service will follow on April 26, 2025, at 10:00 AM, also at El Camino Memorial Park, with a lunch gathering to follow.
The family welcomes flowers, but kindly requests no cash donations.
She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
