Clarence Edward Chatman was born in Montclair, NJ to Henry Chatman and Evelyn Clay Chatman on August 13,1941.
Clarence was raised in Hackensack and Orange, NJ where he attended public schools. He was baptized at the Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Hackensack, NJ.
Clarence enlisted in the United States Navy at age 18 and was trained as a Hospital Corpsman, which gave him extensive medical knowledge.
Clarence married Barbara Barnhardt of Orange, NJ and from this union had three children.
Clarence worked various jobs in the medical field after his service to his country.
Relocating to San Diego, CA he re-enlisted in the Navy. He was blessed to have a devoted friend Mary Lopez and together they had a son.
Clarence was a fun loving guy who was truly devoted to his children and family. Even though his family members were scattered they kept in touch often. He was a good friend to many. He was always making up nicknames for family members.
Clarence was preceded in death by his father Henry Chatman, mother Evelyn Ennis, step-father James Ennis, Sr., son Todd Chatman, half-brothers, Reginald Revis, James Ennis Jr., Guy Ennis, and by his half-sisters Marva Revis Topham, and Constance Revis Gregory.
Left to cherish his memory are his children Troy Chatman of NJ, Nicole Chatman Pride of Whitsett, NC, and Lamont Chatman (Angela) of San Diego, CA, devoted friend Mary Lopez of San Diego, CA, half-brothers Lawrence Ennis of Chetek, WI, Rev. Dawarren Ennis (Tenesia) of Helotes,TX, half-sisters Judy Revis of Maplewood, NJ, Gwendolyn Gunthorpe (Osborne) of Jacksonville, FL, Mary Jane Willis of Plainfield, NJ, Patricia Johnson (Edward) of Washington, PA, and Rashid Chatman of Newark, NJ. He also leaves to mourn 9 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, a host of family members and friends.
