I still remember meeting Scotty in 2017 at the Cave of Wonders. He gave me this beautiful laborodite piece that I still have. He was so funny and smart and interesting and passionate and kind and I am so fortunate to have crossed paths with his soul. 

Hey Scott, I almost forgot! Remember when we stopped by your workplace KFC on the way to the Ball for something yummy? Remember your snarky coworker cracking at me "Oh you must be SO thrilled that he brought you here. Great date, huh, taking you to KFC before the Ball". Remember when I beamed back at him "Oh I LOVE KFC. I'm VERY happy to be here! I can't wait!" His face - ha ha ha he didn't have much to say after that did he? :-D  As you know, I wasn't lying either, it was way yummier than that weird stuff they had at the Ball. Thanks again for the extra biscuit! 

The video of Scott was just beautiful.  My heart is just filled with love for him.  The pictures brought him alive.  My shared sadness for husband, David, and his family.  He was a joy to know. 

That's me in the 1988 ASB Ball picture with Scott - I still have that photo too! I love that pic! Scott was an amazing and really great friend. He was so sweet and so funny and always up for an adventure. Neither one of us were particularly fond of high school but we had fun with it as much as we could, didn't we Scott? Always up for a joke or just to keep me in laughter on those band trips. And we had a blast at that ASB Ball :-) ha ha that was funny with Henry and Heather :-D He was so protective! He was a really great, funny, big-hearted guy that I will never, ever forget. The kind of guy you could be best friends with, move in different directions, meet up again way later in a chance encounter and pick up the friendship right where you left off as though no time had passed at all. Not surprised he spent his adulthood making people and animals happy and went into gemology. He was truly a gem himself. I hope we get to laugh together in the next life too Scott. See you then!

I knew this charming man for several years while working with him at Clairemont Tropical Fish.   He was a joy and delight to be with.   We had so many wonderful, funny times early in the morning while getting the store ready.  I moved up North after retiring and we lost contact.  But---I never forgot Scott.  I am so sad to learn of his transition so young.  It is comforting to see he never lost his charm and was friends to all.  My sympathy to his dear family and friends.

I remember coming to San Diego for my first time just to sell rocks and I had the best time of my life in San Diego all hanging out with Scotty he showed me cool rocks cool things stuff from Egypt things I didn't know about and then we went to his house and we had a good time and he showed me some cool rocks and we had some pizza but you know what there's nobody like Scotty and he'll always be remembered. May he rest in peace from his friends in Colorado

Scott, you were the very definition of a free spirit...and now you are.  I’m sorry your family and friends lost you much too soon, and On behalf of your GIA friends, we will miss you. 

Some of my earliest memories are of my Uncle Scotty. He taught me how to swim one afternoon when I was small. He introduced me to Star Wars and his awesome memorabilia collection. His enthusiasm was infectious and easy to get swept up in. 

I remember when I told him I had begun to play Magic the Gathering with friends at school and he ran into his room and brought back his collection of MtG cards. He went through the cards with me, half explaining, half absorbing my overexcited reactions . When we were finished he said "Here. Now they're yours. And when your friends go crazy over how cool your 'old' cards are you can say that your Uncle Scotty gave them to you and they're b!%?ch!n'!"

He loved to teach and show off things that were super cool, whether it was pop culture or his gems and minerals . He shared the awesome. He spread the awesome.  Thank you for all that you taught me, Uncle Scotty. I love you and you will always be part of who I am today.


Scotty was a very sweet man and it always brightened my spirits to visit with him at the pizza shop when he came in to get a slice. I carry the stones he gave me in my pocket. Whenever the movie Goonies comes up in conversation anywhere, I like to share the story of how cool Scotty's store is and how the movie Goonies plays at all times there, last I recall him explaining to me at least. Thank you for the light you shined on us Scotty. Condolences to his family & friends. ❤️🙏🏻

Scotty, well damn when I decided to go to Budapest and said that I will see you later  in the hospital, it wasn't supposed to be goodbye. It has taken me days to build up the strength to write this, yet I knew before David shared what had happened, that you were gone. You were my guiding light in San Diego after I moved there trying to outrun my heartbreak and a life that seemed broken. As anyone who came to the store and saw me knows, I would walk my neighborhood to clear my head daily and then one day I decided to take that walk to El Cajon Blvd and turn left and it changed my life forever. There you were sitting in your back room of this amazing store that I seemed to not be able to leave. I poured my life story out to you, something I never do to anyone, let alone a stranger and before I knew it you were holding your necklaces, closing your eyes and doing that thing you do in regards to that person who had hurt me so. I still don't know if you were merely gazing into his world, or my past, or his future, but you somehow knew everything even without me telling you. You somehow brought me peace, even if temporary. This became a regular activity, me walking to your store after a long day at work to get some balance, some peace, some calm even in a busy store. I am so glad I was blessed to be able to become your friend, and to call you a mine. While I may have hid it well, that first time you invited me over for dinner with you, David and Patrick, but I was unbelievably happy.  I realize I am now rambling, as I always do and you would always just listen and guide my rambling until I would have a realization, at which point you would just sit back and smile, as you already knew what I said, but never would intrude by saying it for me, always waiting for me to come to the understanding on my own. I now understand why you cried as I hugged you that last time, as you knew it was goodbye, you just didn't have the words to say it. I love you Scotty. Until next time..

Scotty was a friend a former coworker and most importantly an amazing person. He was very talented and always full of life. He would drive us all crazy at times but we all still loved him. He was one unique individual who always spoke his mind freely , was very supportive of his friends and would do anything to help out those in need. It was a pleasure to know him and call him my friend. I am never going to forget him and will always cherish the good times we had together. My condolences go out to his surviving family members and his friends and most importantly his husband David. Rest in peace Scotty. I'll see you on the other side.

Some of my fondest memories Scotty are when we would preview the new stock before it was added to the store. Sometimes we knew what was in the box or bubble wrap, and other times it surprised us both. We could sit for hours chatting about every possible topic as we oohed and ahhed over each gem, mineral, or piece of jewlery.  You always gave me the call when you had a shopping spree to share, let me call dibbs, and tought me so much along the way. I can now spot a fake a mile away! 

But what was truly valuable is what I aquired through your example. You were kind to everyone you met regardless of thier walk of life. You created space and time for those who were marginalized.  You were open hearted, open minded, and generous with whatever you had.  You were also vibrant and funny as hell- and the best hugger of all time. I am a better person for having known you, thank you for sharing in my journey and letting me tag along in yours. 

It was an odd road we shared with you with some amazing memories. You changed the way I thought, gave me a friend I never thought I’d have, made me laugh, drove me crazy.....  Through it all you were always you, unwavering, full of life and full of love. See you on the other side my brother.
