I really enjoyed the Memorial Service last week held on Zoom. The music was excellent, and those old friends who shared the memories told wonderful stories of trips with Dave. It was a real tribute to a beautiful life that ended too soon. I knew Dave through church (St. Peter's by-the-Sea Lutheran out on Sunset Cliffs. He was always fun to talk to at the Coffee Hour, and sometimes I would see him around OB too and have a chat. One day my wife and I were walking by his house and he spotted us and insisted we come in to see the kitchen remodel. It was gorgeous. He was always so outgoing, and was sure to ask about my mother who also attended the church until she was 102. He read a nice Norwegian prayer at her reception, perhaps one of the prayers that concluded the wonderful life story in photos that closed the Memorial Service. My deepest condolences to Barb, Laurel, and Lindsey at this tragic loss.

Dave entered our lives as the outgoing neighbor, honing his bow hunting skills while shooting from across the street hitting a target at the rear of his garage, we met while out walking. You knew straight away that he was going to be an interesting kind of fellow. Boy did he ever live up the that expectation! Lidia and I were fortunate enough to develop a friendship with Dave and Barb after that an shared many a fun evening together for dinner, dancing and live entertainment, of course you always had "live entertainment" when you were in the presence of Dave Haas. He leaves us with a renewed appreciation for life.....
Thank you for the memories,
Tom and Lidia Hayes

Jerry and I picture Dave at his fabulous home with an awesome live band ( which was so generous!) swaggering on over with one shoulder down asking the group or individual “let’s dance” I think you had better be ready to dance! Dave and I and I presume many of his friends all shared his love of the soul queen -Aretha Franklin!
He certainly loved life, his wife Barbara and his two daughters first and foremost. With precious time and people who care for you , healing will take place and many memories will always remain. Until we meet in Heaven Dave...... “Dance on “ know how much you were loved and will always be in our thoughts.
God’s Blessings
Love and sympathy

Dave-I loved this guy. He joined our sailing group on numerous trips around the world. He was a great fisherman. He and I played golf for nearly 10 years every week. Afterwards, we would have a few libations at my house. He was always very bubbly and the life of the party on our sailing trips. I will dearly miss this wonderful friend.

We did a lot of trips and good times with Dave. He was very enthusiastic about life and the times we shared. We skied, fished, dived, traveled, played tennis, drank and ate together. He will be greatly missed.

Dave, what a crazy fun loving man. He lived life like each day was going to be special. He was always the leader of the Fun Patrol, the things he would do kept us all in stitches. Times on his boat and on the Golf Coarse will be etched in my memory for ever. Him seeing an abandoned fishing pole out in the ocean, think he was going to let it be, no way, his words, “I’m going to get that Mother “
Stops down naked, dives in the ocean and retrieves the pole, he was so stoked, we were busting up the rest of the outing after that, Great Times he will be greatly missed,
Love u Brother,
Brian & Michelle

Dave was a HUGE personality and one of the most fun-loving people we have ever met. He was exceptionally friendly and gregarious and we are so happy to have known him. He will absolutely come to mind every time we are dancing. We will miss him! Our hearts and prayers are very much with Barb, Lindsay and Laurel.

I met Dave in Tahiti, only to learn we were neighbors on Point Loma. After that we shared many great adventures, always made the more extreme and crazy by Dave who added a special zest and comedic flair to every experience. I hear his voice in Fiji saying "Look! I am reading a book - take a picture!" Remember that moonlit night when we were stranded on the dock on Saint Lucia in our wet dive gear with no food or money? Dave took every situation in stride and laughed even as we scrambled to get out of the latest scrape. I will miss him...

First of all, I cannot believe that Dave was 70! I had been telling friends that he was in his late 50s ! I guess that is because he was so vibrant and such an energetic person ( I don’t remember him ever sitting down at a party..)
I always admired what a great couple you were and how much fun you had with each other and everyone else around you.
You had amazing trips - catamaran in the Seychelle Islands, a caravan of boats in Thailand - always with friends because the two of you drew people to you. He will definitely be missed by many. Much love to you and your girls, Ginny

My sincere condolences go out to you Barb and the girls... and my prayers are with you all during this difficult time.
Dave was truly the life of the party.... and that’s how I met him- one of our “RMG” shin digs, not to mention the happy hours or the time you had us all over to enjoy the beautiful sunset from your backyard. I can always catch Dave in conversation by the Bar. I miss those Days with you Barb... I always knew you and Dave lead a pretty exciting and adventurous life together. I’ll always remember the time when Lindsey turned 16... and I got to see firsthand Dave getting his sweet 16’s party ready. I’m glad I got to be a part of all that... I pray all these beautiful memories comfort you as you move through life. Cheers, Dave... until we all meet again.

Barbara, Laurel, Lindsay, and family,
We knew Dave as a man who embraced life to the fullest! His desire to share his upbeat spirit with us, will remain foremost in our thoughts of him.
We will all miss his buoyant persona and genuine love for his friends and family.
We deeply lament your sorrow , and hope you will find peace in the memories of the time he was given to you and to us.
He will dance in our hearts forever and in this way he will continue on within us!
Although taken too soon, he was a gift we will always treasure.
With profound love,

Not only was David, the life of the party - he was the Party! There was no way not to have a good time when you were with him. I still remember the day I met him on the beach in OB. He was with Ed and Nancy. I was by myself, and he invited me to sit with them. Totally Mr. Outgoing!!
That was almost 50 years ago. I cannot believe this force of nature is no longer with us. I feel blessed to have known him and even though we did not see each other that often, I will truly miss him. My deepest and heartfelt condolences to Barb, and Lindsey, and Laurel.
