

Dolores “Ann” Mattingly Sullivan was born December 15th, 1936, in Maryland to James and Lillian Mattingly. She grew up in Washington D.C. alongside her older brother James “Matt”. Ann attended St. Anthony’s school in D.C. from 1st through 12th grade. She was a basketball player and a cheerleader and made lifelong friends during her time there. Her true passion was theatre and singing, and she starred in many plays at St. Anthony’s. Ann attended Dunbarton College of the Holy Cross in Washington D.C. and graduated with a history major in 1958. Ann married the love of her life, Vincent Sullivan, on June 25, 1960, in Washington D.C. In 1962, Vince and Ann moved to San Diego, where they raised their family. They had three children, Susan (Larry), Terry, and Laura Lee (Byron). Ann was a stay-at-home mom for many years and created a happy and loving home for family and friends. The family enjoyed great vacations which included skiing, raft trips, San Felipe, and visiting relatives on the east coast. She volunteered for the Social Services Auxiliary and was involved in their numerous events throughout San Diego. Ann joined the church choir at several Catholic churches in San Diego, showcasing her beautiful singing voice. Ann returned to work in the commercial insurance industry and then worked for the Roman Catholic Diocese of San Diego, where she retired in the 2000s. Ann went to God on November 10, 2024 from complications due to Alzheimer’s disease. She is survived by her three adult children, three grandsons, Bryce, Darby and Che, and many cousins, nieces and nephews. A private family service will be held to honor Ann’s life.
