Don’s life started in a small farm town with a hard work ethic and a sense to protect. He played high school football, back when they had leather helmets, Don spoke of those days fondly.
He served in the Navy from June 1950 to June 1953 on the USS Iowa.
Don worked many different jobs to support himself and his family, such as with Knudsen Creamery, delivering products to stores. He served as an LA County Deputy Sheriff from March 1962 to March 1983. He had a love for shooting and in 1978 he was ranked 7th in the state of California Governor’s 20 list.
He retired to San Diego. He had a love for golf, and sports. When his eyesight prevented him from being on the golf course, he continued to watch all the golf he could on TV. Don always dreamed big and loved his lottery tickets hoping to win the big ONE!
Don is survived by his wife Adele Kalberloh and son Joe Kalberloh; plus many extended family members, Erin, Kirk, and Kevin MacDonald, Laurie and Dave Stewart, Makayla and Connor Schroeder, Cody and Sara Stewart, and older brother Ralph Kalberloh.
Don’s full life included marriages, a son, stepsons, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. If you were in Don’s inner circle you were family. Friends were long lasting; he kept in touch with many by email and phone calls... even a classmate from elementary school!
Preceded by Don: Donnie (wife), Effie (Wife), Edna (sister), Jean (sister) Rodger (brother), Frank, (Effie’s son) and Wayne (Effie’s son).
