EDWARD R. HOLAND went to the Lord on November 2, 2013. He was born in Bremerton, Washington on August 25, 1925. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps 6th Marine Division during World War II and was awarded the Presidential
Unit Citation for his action on Okinawa.
After the war he resumed his career as a Federal Firefighter at the Puget Sound Navel Shipyard and in 1961 relocated to Ocean Beach in San Diego where he continued his career at the Navel Ocean Systems Center at Point Loma. He was promoted to Fire Captain in 1973 and retired in 1990.
Ed loved fishing and hunting in his young life and later turned to photography and acrylic painting in his later years and won a number of photo contests with his great shots of Ocean Beach Pier sunsets.
Ed was well known in Ocean Beach with his friendly smile and humor and kind words. Like many he just happened on the place in the early days and fell in love with it.
Survivors include his son Mark of San Diego and Daughter Cathy Borger and grandchild Catrina Borger.
He will be interred at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery with his late twin brother, Theodore Holland, who served with him on Okinawa.
