CA, at the age of 83.
Elliott is survived by his wife, Nina, and his children, Michael, of New Jersey, and Adam
(Amy), of San Diego, and granddaughter, Zoe Goldstein, of San Diego. He is preceded
in death by his brother, David, of Kansas City.
Elliott was born in Cleveland, Ohio, to Blanche and Morris Goldstein. He graduated
summa cum laude Phi Beta Kappa from Case Western Reserve in 1961 and attended
Princeton University Graduate School on a Woodrow Wilson Fellowship for history. In
1967 he graduated J.D., Order of the Coif, from Case Western Reserve University Law
School.
Elliott married Nina in 1963 and they welcomed Michael and Adam in 1969 and 1971.
He was a law professor at De Paul University in Chicago, Illinois from 1972 to 1986,
when labor arbitration eclipsed teaching as his full-time career. He retired with his wife
to San Diego in 2017 to be close to his children.
Elliott’s true legacy is the love, guidance and support he freely bestowed on everyone in
his life, from grateful law students to fledgling arbitrators and lawyers before him in
court, and especially to his beloved family. He was that rarest of people, a giver with no
ego, a droll comic, a patient mentor. At 5’2”, he was a true giant. We will miss him
forever.
Elliott will be buried at El Camino Memorial Park on Friday, September 9, 2022, at a
graveside service. Shiva is Saturday, September 10, 2022 5-9pm at the family’s home.
