Eugene Cecil Sanders

Eugene (Gene) Sanders passed away at the age of 89. Born and raised in Lexington, Kentucky he was the son of Cecil and Louise Sanders. In 1948 He proudly enlisted in the US Navy which brought him to San Diego during the Korean conflict. Later he pursued his education earning a bachelors degree and MBA from the University of Kentucky. He got his California Teaching Credential and spent 33 years teaching high school and courses at City and Mesa College. In his later years, Gene was commissioned a Kentucky Colonel and was an active member of the La Jolla Presbyterian Church where he served as a Deacon. Gene was a selfless, kind, generous man who loved traveling, photography, gardening and was an avid runner and backpacker. He was a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather.

Eugene is survived by his wife of 68 years, Darlene, their 3 children Steve, Stuart Sanders and Suzanne Robertson and 5 grandchildren, Jared, Lea and Amy Sanders, Sean and Ryan Robertson.
