

Frank (Sonny) Quinones III, 88, died comfortably on March 21, 2022 at home in San Diego, CA. He was born on October 10, 1933 in Kauai, Hawaii to parents Frank and Haruko. Sonny spent his early childhood in Kilauea, a Sugarcane plantation community.
He graduated from Kauai High School then left home when he joined the Coastguard. He faithfully served his country for 3 years earning; “The Good Conduct Medal”, “The United Nations Medal” and “The Korean Service Medal”, creating the fondest of memories and lifelong friendships.
He settled in San Francisco, CA where he married Mary Puaokina Kaialoa in 1955. There they raised Rayna and Pearl until they left the city in 1968 and bought their first home in Fremont, CA where they were blessed with their 3rd born, Nanci-Ann. Frank was very active and enjoyed diving, fishing, camping, golfing, bowling, cooking, baking watching the 49ers, Giants, and Warrior games with his family. He had a green-thumb which was displayed by his many orchids, fruit trees and ginger plants and he had the best vegetable garden every year. He loved going to the Casinos, whenever he had the chance, to win that Big Jackpot!!!
After 44 years of marriage, Pua went home to be with the Lord. In 2001 he married Florence Caspillo-Igne, they enjoyed traveling extensively and serving their local churches and community. After Flo went home to be with the Lord in 2017 he moved to San Diego, CA to live with John, Nanci and their children.
Frank is preceded in death by his wife Mary in 1999 and his second wife Flo in 2017; parents Frank and Haruko; siblings Mitchell, Irene and Jimmy. Grandson Joseph (Joey) Kim.
He is survived by: daughters Rayna Kim, Pearl Williams and Nanci-Ann Clifford; sons-in-law John Kim, Bill Williams, and John Clifford. His grandchildren; Jason Kim (Jessica), Jenna Kim Centeno (Alex), Jeff Kim, Sami Haili-Tapuolo (Faa), Joshua Williams, Reanna Williams, Matt Williams, Gabbi Clifford, Nate Clifford, and Noelani Clifford and great grandchildren; Kinohi Leonor, Kapono Haili-Tapuolo, Kawika Haili-Tapuolo, Alofa Haili-Tapuolo, Alewa Haili-Tapuolo, Joey Kim, Adrian Centeno, Alianna Centeno, Kaileo McIntyre, Kealani McIntyre, and Jay Kamea Williams.
We would like to acknowledge and thank John, Nanci, Gabby, Nate, and Noe Clifford for being so loving and welcoming our daddy into their family home, spending family time, conversing, taking him to the kid’s sports and other activities, watching tv with him and caring/nurturing his every need without hesitation.
A memorial mass will be held at Holy Spirit Church. His cremains will be interred at Miramar Military Cemetery including a military service in San Diego. A Memorial Service will also be held in Kauai Hawaii. Dates & Times TBA.
