

Frank James Vaughn Jr. was known as many things to many people. He was a loved one, a friend, and someone special. To family and friends who knew him best, Frank will be remembered as a very exceptional person.
He was the son of Frank and Jean Vaughn. Frank grew up in San Diego, CA.
As a young boy, Frank had a number of interests. Like most children, he enjoyed playing and making up games. He was curious about the world around him and was often eager to explore it. Frank was an active child who took part in motorcycle racing. In his spare time he liked horseback riding and horse races. However, to Frank, the most fun to be had was simply playing and spending time with his friends.
A typical teenager, Frank had a fairly happy high school experience, making that critical transition from adolescence to adulthood. He graduated from Point Loma High School in 1956. He enjoyed some classes more than others, having favorite subjects and teachers.
Always considered a “good” friend to those he knew, Frank enjoyed a broad group of acquaintances and several very close friends during his lifetime.
On November 17, 1956 Frank exchanged wedding vows with Muriel Derrick at Bethany Luthurn Church of Ocean Beach, CA. Empathic and loyal, Frank was committed to making his new family happy.
Frank worked hard to be a good father to his children and he did his best to fulfill their needs. Frank was blessed with four children Daniel, Cheryl, Robert and Diane. Another blessing for Frank was the gift of ten grandchildren Jeanna, Peter, Danielle, David, Justin, Heather, Scotty, Yasha, Soley, Marlon and Crystal Rose . Great grand children Kevin, Joshton, Cameron, Uriyah, Liliana and Jayden.
Fortunately, Frank enjoyed what he did for a living. Showing a strong work ethic, Frank worked diligently and did his best to succeed in his career. His primary occupation was Electronics. He was employed for design and manufacturing. Frank always sought to be a team player, doing what was necessary in order to get the job done.
Frank enjoyed his leisure time by taking part in various hobbies. His favorite pursuits were motorcycling, car restoration, stamp collecting, etchings, photography, gardening and listening to music. He was content to enjoy his favorite pastimes alone but was also willing to share his interests with others.
Frank found pleasure in sports. Recreational sports included motorcycling, coaching Little Lague and Pop Warner. Frank was also something of a sports fan and enjoyed following his favorite events whenever he had the chance to do so. Tops on his list were football- San Diego Chargers.
Throughout his life, Frank was a doer and was always actively involved in professional and community organizations. Throughout his later years, Frank was an active member of the Lions Club, Antique Motorcycle Club and San Diego Flat Track Association.
Frank was a man who took pride in upholding his beliefs. So it is little wonder that he took an active role in his community, serving on committees for the Little League and Pop Warner.
Though he never set out to gain individual recognition, Frank was given accolades for his many and varied accomplishments throughout his life. Some of his most prestigious awards included multiple motorcycle racing awards and trophies.
Frank enjoyed traveling and time away on vacations. It was a chance for him to renew and relax, to visit new places and experience new things. Favorite vacations included Cabo, Hawaii, Cancun, Mexico City, Scottland, Dubai and Peru.
When Frank’s retirement finally arrived in 2005 he was well prepared. In retirement, he found new pleasure in taking care and spending time with family.
Frank passed away on March 2, 2015 at home. He is survived by his children, grand children and great grand children. Services were held at Beardsley-Mitchell Funeral Home.
Simply stated, Frank was a good and kind person, an individual who will for all time be remembered by his family and friends as being a caring and giving person, someone who was a vital part of their lives. Frank leaves behind him a legacy of life-long friendships and many cherished memories. Everyone whose life he touched will always remember Frank James Vaughn Jr.
