It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Frederick Paul Davis on July 14, 2025, at the age of 97. Fred passed away peacefully in his home in San Diego, with his loving daughter, Debbie, by his side.
Born on April 6, 1928, in Mattoon, Illinois, Fred spent his early years with his family before enlisting in the U.S. Navy at the age of 18. During his pilot training, he met the love of his life, Jacquelyn. It was love at first sight, and the two were soon married. In 1952, they welcomed their daughter, Deborah Jo, into the world. Fred and Jacquelyn shared several joyful decades of marriage until her passing in December 2007.
Fred served his country with distinction as a Navy carrier pilot, holding top-secret clearance and flying several missions in Southeast Asia. He retired with the rank of Lieutenant Commander after 26 years of service. Following his military career, he earned a postgraduate degree and began a second chapter as an executive with the Port Authority in San Diego. Throughout both careers, he received numerous commendations and meritorious service awards for his dedication and leadership.
In 1988, Fred and his family became members of Torrey Pines Christian Church, where he played a key role in launching a transportation program to assist fellow parishioners—an idea that might well have inspired the ride-sharing model we know today. His generosity, sense of humor, and devotion to others were defining qualities throughout his life.
Fred’s life was a testament to kindness, perseverance, love of family, and commitment to community. He is survived by his beloved daughter, Deborah Jo (Debbie), and his brother, John Davis.
A memorial service will be held on August 5, 2025, at 1:00 PM at El Camino Memorial Park, 5600 Carroll Canyon Rd, San Diego, CA 92121. All who knew and loved Fred are welcome to attend and celebrate his life.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, an organization Fred deeply respected.
Frederick Paul Davis will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
