George Rudy Ikeda Sr.

George R Ikeda, Sr. passed away Saturday, June 5, 2021, at Grossmont Hospital. He was 85 years old and had suffered an aneurysm seven days earlier. He left this world peacefully, listening to his favorite Frank Sinatra.

George was born December 18, 1935, in the city of Waipahu on Oahu, Hawaii to Harry and Phyllis Ikeda. He survived the Pearl Harbor attack by running through sugarcane fields. George was an excellent student. After graduating from Waipahu High, he spent three years in the U.S. Army, earning the Good Conduct medal and leaving with the rank of Sergeant.

He worked for the City of San Diego for 32 years. George spend much of his city career as the Carpenter Supervisor in General Services, Buildings Division. He designed and built beautiful furniture, a lot of which is still in use today.

George is survived by Linda, his wife of 36 years, his three children; Debra Moore, George Ikeda Jr. (Kathi), Brian Ikeda (Kristen), nine grandchildren; Robert Allen, Leslie Allen, Melissa Rush, Samantha Rush, George Ikeda III, Victor Ikeda-Wood (Chris), Michaela Ikeda, Spencer Ikeda and Angelina Jones, six great grandchildren, one great great grandchild, two brothers, four half brothers and two half sisters.

Nothing was more important to George than his family. He had a life well lived, enjoyed his 30 years of retirement, he will be missed greatly and remembered by the many lives he touched.

George was an avid golfer. He won many SDCCEGC club championships and was always delighted to share a round with family, friends or any strangers. In lieu of flowers, donations to the San Diego Junior Golf Program are suggested ( https://www.classy.org/give/266599/#!/donation/checkout ).
