Obituario de Gil Cansanay Patricio Sr.
EN EL CUIDADO DE

El Camino Memorial - Sorrento Valley & Memorial Park

Gil Patricio, 89, of San Diego, California, passed away peacefully on November 2, 2025. Born on September 1, 1936, in Laguna, Philippines, Gil lived a life filled with dedication, service, and laughter that touched everyone who knew him.

After proudly serving 22 years in the United States Navy, Gil continued his commitment to his community and country with 25 years of civil service for the U.S. government. He took great pride in earning the rank of Chief Petty Officer and served at several duty stations, including three tours during the Vietnam War and as a Navy recruiter in Honolulu, Hawaii. Following his military career, he earned an associate degree in purchasing and materials management from San Diego Miramar College.

Beyond his professional life, Gil was a man of deep faith and community spirit. As a Eucharistic minister, he found joy in serving at Good Shepherd Catholic Church. He also held various leadership roles—including president—within the Laguna Association of California, USA, reflecting his strong ties to his heritage and his passion for bringing people together.

At home, Gil found happiness in life’s simple pleasures: tending his orchids and garden, and spending time bowling with friends and family. He loved singing karaoke—favorites included Tony Bennett, Nat King Cole, Tom Jones, Jerry Vale, and Engelbert Humperdinck—and he enjoyed visiting the casino for bingo and slots. Gil and his beloved wife, Norma, also cherished evenings playing mahjong with close friends. His favorite foods were kare-kare, ice cream, apple fritters, hopia, ramen, Big Macs, Chinese buffets, and, above all, Norma’s homemade siopao.

Married for 67 years to the love of his life, Norma, Gil was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is survived by Norma; daughter, Nora Prodigalidad; sons, Gil Patricio Jr. and Glen Patricio; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Gil’s legacy of humor, kindness, and generosity will live on in all who were blessed to know and love him.
