Harriet Green was born in Los Angeles on February 11, 1926, the only child of Martin Green of
Hungary and Cora Frommer Green of the Bronx. She grew up in the Fairfax district of Los
Angeles, until the family moved to San Diego where she graduated from San Diego High
School. Before entering the University of Southern California, she worked in the wartime
industry as a “Rosie the Riveter” in Coronado.
Harriet met and fell in love with Alan E. Price at USC. They were married in 1947, and, other
than a few years living in Pittsburgh, PA, they made their lives in Southern California. Harriet
and Alan had four sons, whom they raised in San Diego. They cultivated and enjoyed the
company of a wide circle of friends in San Diego and Los Angeles. As their sons grew up,
Harriet and Alan traveled extensively. Harriet was long associated with Congregation Beth Israel
in San Diego, and she volunteered with UCSD’s Cancer Foundation and with the Braille
Institute. Alan died in 1989, and Harriet moved to La Jolla where she continued her life filled
with her love of friends, movies, reading, and family. In her last years, she lived in the Bay Area,
close to her family who are there. She had a smile that would light up the room.
Harriet is survived by her sons, Lloyd Price (Katherine Matlack), Andy Price, Rick Price (Becky),
John Price (Lynn), eight grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. She is also survived by her
cousins Gayle Kellner, Marilyn Yaemans, Eleanor Burnett, and Roberta Darrow.
