Hseu Sung was born in 1935 in Taiwan (formerly Formosa) when it was a Colony of Japan. She was the third of seven children. Her Father (Ar Chuan, Kuo) originally operated a successful import/export business, however, when the ROC Government relocated to Taiwan in 1949, the new government took all of their family belongings and they were forced to move to a rural village. Life turned sour for the family; then, shortly afterward, her Mom died, and Hseu Sung assumed the responsibility of caring for her younger brothers and sister. She frequently walked for hours to get firewood for cooking family meals during her teens.
At the age of 22, Hseu Sung married Kun Ho Wei, and, over the next several years, she gave birth to four children: Jerry, Nancy, Jimmy, and Emmy. She was a devoted wife to her husband, and a very responsible mother to her children. In addition to caring for her family, she also tended the farm fields and sold produce from street to street. She sure was a hard working wife/mother.
Things she was so proud of herself for: Immigrating to the USA in 1983, Switching her family career gears from peasant to business owner, taking care of her grandkids while her children worked 360 days per year and watched them suceed as business entrepreneurs. She was also so proud of herself for passing the US citizenship test with a perfect score, and for being able to change flights all by herself in U.S. airports without any English skills.
As the years went by, Hseu Sung became the proud Grandmother of 5. On 10/30/2023 she was so happy to became a Great Grandmother to a precious little boy, Leo. She was so happy, and had a hard time taking her eyes aways from little Leo. She frequently said, "take good care of Leo and make sure he becomes a great person, just like his Mother and Father."
Things Hseu enjoyed the most were: cooking for her children, dancing, gardening, and singing Japanese and Taiwanese songs to guests. In her later years, she enjoyed watching Taiwanese Soap Operas and Kung Foo movies, and tipping her Son-in-Law with chocolates when he brought meals to her room. She always preferred a good Bruce Lee classic over an episode of Rick Steve’s Europe, as her Son-in-Law found out one day while try ing to find her some good entertainment on her tablet. Rick Steve’s = “no good”. Bruce Lee = “YAH HA WHACK!” (including a grin and hand motions).
