Born into a large Irish Catholic family, Justin was the fourth child of Roderic and Lorna Jean (Nee Laurence) O'Connor and was raised on Willard Avenue in Baldwin, New York. Known for his reticent behavior and wicked sense of humor, he was a beloved brother to his three sisters Erin, Nancy, and Deirdre, and his two brothers, David and Geoffrey.
Justin graduated from Baldwin High School in 1979 and attended St. John's University in Queens, NY, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting. Throughout his high school and college years, Justin worked in the famous Sportarama sporting goods store in his hometown of Baldwin and as a lifeguard at Point Lookout Beach to pay his way through school.
After graduating from St. John's University Justin followed a calling to serve his country. He headed to Officer Candidate School in Quantico, Virginia, and in 1983 was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps. During his seven years in the Marines, he was stationed at several different locations in Asia, including Japan and Thailand, before getting stationed at Camp Pendleton. In 1990 Justin was honorably discharged having achieved the rank of Captain.
From Camp Pendleton, Justin would return to Quantico, this time to begin his training as a Special Agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, in which he served with distinction until his retirement 28 years later. His first assignment was in Sacramento, where he was primarily tasked with investigating white-collar financial crimes. After seven years, the Bureau transferred Justin to the town of El Centro, California along the US/Mexico border, and from there to San Diego, where he would spend the rest of his career. Like most agents, Justin faced an entirely new challenge in the wake of the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001. Thereafter, he spent most of his time investigating national security threats in Southern California.
During his brief retirement, Justin had more time to devote to his family and friends. He was a dear friend to so many of his colleagues, neighbors, and fellow parishioners at St. Brigid Roman Catholic Church in Pacific Beach. He was generous with his time at the parish and kindhearted with his donations to help those in need. He was also everyone's favorite team member for trivia challenges. He delighted in friends and family visiting San Diego, and happily took siblings, nieces, nephews, and cousins to see the sites of the city. His nieces, Shannon Considine, Mackenzie O'Connor (Patrick Murphy), Brenna O'Connor, and Olivia O'Connor, and nephews, Christopher Considine, Michael O'Connor, and Rory O'Connor all looked forward to seeing their beloved Uncle Justin on holidays and visits to San Diego.
Justin was preceded in death by his parents Lorna Jean and Roderic O'Connor and his sister Nancy Considine (Cliff). He is survived by his sisters Erin O'Connor (Kevin Henry), Deirdre O'Connor, brothers David O'Connor (Alicia), and Geoffrey O'Connor (Kim), his nieces and nephews, and cousins too numerous to count. He will be deeply missed by all his friends and family.
A funeral Mass will be held at St. Brigid's Catholic Church, 4735 Cass Street, San Diego, Tuesday September 17 at 11AM. Final remembrances will precede the Mass at 9:30 AM at Pacific Beach - La Jolla Chapel, 4710 Cass St., San Diego. In lieu of flower donations, the family asks you to remember Justin with a donation to the charity of your choice.
