James Graduated from Francis Parker School in San Diego and received his bachelor's degree in Mathematics with a minor in Chemistry from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He met his future wife Amanda in 2000, began dating in 2006, and ultimately married in August 2010. He worked as a staff engineer at NASSCO (General Dynamics) for almost 20 years.
James had a big heart and always enjoyed spending time with both his California family and Amanda's family in Michigan. In addition, James was an ardent sports fan and, to say the least, a fervent follower of the North Carolina Tar Heels.
James also enjoyed playing Over The Line for many years. He was a fierce competitor in his prime.
James is survived by his wife Amanda, father Jack, brother Charles and his wife Marleuza, brother-in-law Chad Dillon and his wife Kaseye, and his aunts Susan Mayes, Anne Mayes, and Betty Hecht. He will be missed by nieces Anne, Kallee, Aleazeah, Isabella, Holley, and Ryleigh, nephews Alden and Garrett, and young buddies Nico and Gael, Atlas and Savana.
He was preceded in death by his mother Linda Mayes Pope, mother-in-law Sandra Dillon, niece Alonah Dillon and Uncle John Mayes who lived with James' family.
